    Besides homebrewing, what stuff do you like to produce from scratch?

    I grow chilies in the summer and make a massive amount of pumpkin seeds in the fall. But I really love baking and cooking for the holidays during the winter.

    Just bottled an Octoberfest last weekend, brewing a Holiday spiced Robust Porter this weekend, and bottling my pumpkin brown next week. Looking forward to not baby sitting the swamp cooler. It's like having a third child!

    Christmas in July

    Going to be putting together a holiday spiced Robust Porter as soon as I have a fermenter open. I love the holidays. I normally bake and decorate like a bastard, but since I started brewing this year it opens up a whole new world. Cheers!

    I lied about my first beer

    Yep, my first was garbage too. I got the kit from a local HBS that is known for poor ingredients (didn't know at the time), I scorched the extract, and thought B-Brite was a sanitizer! Tastes ok until the finish, then it's the definition of "extract twang." On my 5 batch now, found a great HBS...

    adding a fruit flavor

    Just made a blackberry Wit with the flavoring. It was a 5 oz bottle and started with 1 oz and added 0.5 oz at a time after that. Stopped at 2.5 oz. I just wanted enough for a little blackberry on the finish. I can't believe the directions say to add a full 5 oz for a 5 gal batch. Nuts!

    Brewpubs That Suck

    There is a brewpub/steakhouse near me here in western Mass that was handing out samples at a local liquor store. The beer was pissy and flat. I thought it a bit odd that they all had accents too. As we were leaving they were loading up their Escalade (yep), and guess what, no accents. Bogus BS...

    What time do you brew?

    I start around 8:30pm once the 3 month and 2.5 year old are in bed. I'm only doing extract now due to the lack of sleep. I dream of brewing all grain watching the sun coming up with a cup of coffee in my hand (I'm an early riser). At least I can dream!
