American Pale Ale Kona, Fire Rock Pale Ale (AG Clone)

I brewed this for first time over 8 years ago and its still one of my goto brews! Brewing another 10 gallons this weekend! Can’t believe this thread has been dead this long! It needed a bump!

When taking the Final Gravity, Where's the Alcohol??

I would ask the hydrometer. Surely it would know best.

    Measuring Calcium Chloride

I got the updated version but haven't had a chance to enter any calculations. Just wondering, how off was the liquid CaCl2 calculations? Just curious. I have 6 batches in fermentation and wondering what I should expect.

CO2 and hydro testing in Cincinnati

In my neck of the woods the cheapest places are Fire Extinguisher companies. And the quickest. They will fill the CO2 while you are waiting, in most cases.

    BM's Centennial Blonde-Doubled the Hops??

I'm not sure if I understand what you are saying. Did you double the 60min addition to .5oz? Or did you double all the additions to .5oz?

15 or 19 gal kettle for 5 gal batch

I'm going against the grain and recommending you get the 19 gallon kettle. I get that most if not all of your batches will be 5 gallons but when, and you will decide to brew up a double batch of your popular pale or blonde ale you will be thankful you have the 19 gallon kettle. For 1 reason...

I uninvite myself to brew days... Do you?

I get what the OP is saying, I'm very much like this. It's a part of me that I want to change about myself. In situations like this I take a few deep breaths, a few swigs of beer and try to sit back and enjoy the moment. Try to give some constructive advise.

American Pale Ale Kona, Fire Rock Pale Ale (AG Clone)

This recipe is outstanding! Although I have to say that I prefer the beer cloudy than clear. I feel it loses something when the yeast drop. I've never had the original Fire Rock so can't compare. Thanks for the recipe!

    Do you drink your failures?

Life is too short to drink ****ty beer. Needless to say, I'll dump it and chalk it up to a learning experience.

    Increasing Calcium

I guess I was just trying to keep my profile within Palmer's recommended ranges. I really appreciate your help Yooper. I'm new to water chemistry so bare with my stupidity! :) Is there a chart available anywhere with recommended water profiles for styles of beer? I think I have read people...

    Increasing Calcium

Thanks for the quick replies. I have several reasons why I want to keep my sulfate levels on the lower end and my calcium up a bit. I want to brew a well balanced American Amber Ale and keep the really dry bitterness to a minimum. I'm looking at a chloride to sulfate ratio of approx 1.20...

    Increasing Calcium

Is it ok to increase calcium with slaked lime, then compensate my mash ph with lactid acid? I'm brewing an amber ale and want to harden my water without increasing my sulfate levels. Cheers.

how much should a co2 refill cost?

I work for a company that services fire extinguishers. I fill them myself for free. :)

Are there any hops you actually dislike?

Bramling Cross. I've had several beers with this hop and I find it rather disgusting.
