    random beer recipe I made

I appreciate the input about the mash temp. I had done some reading and was looking to improve the body in my beers so this is the first time I had mashed over 154. We'll see how it turns out I guess. As for the Maris otter, it seems like everyone who has posted on this thread thinks Maris...

    random beer recipe I made

Thanks for the excellent feedback. I think I will try out a half 2 row/half maris otter on the next batch. I made a pure maris otter batch and thought it was somehow overpowering so maybe mixing it with two row would be a better balance. I'm really just experimenting with no clear idea how...

    random beer recipe I made

toss them. I made a beer recently that had a full ounce of hops in it and the bitter was too much. just tinkering with amounts.

    random beer recipe I made

ok, I need a little critique on my recipe please. Just made this on a whim and haven't tasted it yet just wondering if others think this is a good recipe. 9 lb 2 row 1/2 lb maris otter 1/2 lb munich 1/4 lb crystal 120 50 min at 158 degrees 10 min at 170 7/8 oz Columbus 60 min 1 oz...

    perfect recipe for maris otter

Thread update- I will have to say that using 8 lb of Maris Otter extract with no crystal in it is leaving something to be desired. This is a pretty strong, malty beer that could use some sweetness to add complexity. I like the hop schedule though. I will probably do one of the other...

I winged it today: Galaxy Pale Ale

So I went ahead and brewed a second batch of this Galaxy pale ale. I knocked the IBU's down from over 90 to 68 and used two cans of Briess Golden LME. I must say that this brew is more balanced. Still very fragrant and hoppy but not over the top and I can still appreciate the malt flavor. I...

I'm going to give your recipe a try. I'll try to remember to post a review of the final product. Thanks!

    perfect recipe for maris otter

I scored some Maris Otter LME and I would like some pointers from more experienced brewers. I've never used it before and would like to do a recipe that will showcase the maris otter flavor and be an english style beer. Lastly, it should be a delicious beer. Anyone have recommendations?

    what monster is this?

Good thought. I wasn't sure exactly when to put in the Sorachi Ace or the Mosaic really...but maybe if Sorachi Ace is a really good flavor hop then I can bump it. what then to do with the Fuggles and Mosaic...

    what monster is this?

I wanted to adjust my hop amounts downward a little since the last brew I attempted. Last time I used 4 one-ounce increments and it was hoppier than I want this one to be. As far as the quarter ounce remainders, I can find a use for them elsewhere...I will probably make a kitchen sink brew and...

    what monster is this?

So there I was, once again perusing the LHBS offerings. I came up with the following ingredients for my next brew- 3.3 lb pilsen LME 3.3 lb Golden LME 1 lb Maris Otter 3/4 oz magnum 60 m 3/4 oz Fuggles 15 m 3/4 oz Mosaic 5 m 3/4 oz Sorachi Ace flameout The question is this-...

I winged it today: Galaxy Pale Ale

Ok, final update- Excellent beer. Only thing I want to do differently next time is tweak the malt flavor. It was a great showcase for the Galaxy hops but there was a little something missing and I think it needed more malt body.

I winged it today: Galaxy Pale Ale

Yet another update- I've bottled the batch and of course, sampled the goods. This stuff smells amazing! The aroma has certainly changed over time and the flavor reminds me of oranges. Very pleasant and possibly my best concoction yet. It will be about Christmas before I start drinking these...

I winged it today: Galaxy Pale Ale

took a couple samples today from the carboy, this stuff is going to be out of this world! Smells like some exotic fruit I've never tried before and has a mellow malt background with a decent level of bitterness.

I winged it today: Galaxy Pale Ale

Thread update: I couldn't resist so I popped open the lid on my fermenter and took a quick whiff and I must say I am very excited to try this beer. The hops aroma is absolutely delicious. It is much different than it smelled last night as I was brewing, and in a very good way.

I winged it today: Galaxy Pale Ale

Wow, thats an intense brew. Galaxy seems like a pretty strong hop to me and that's why I stopped at using 4 oz in this batch. Maybe the final product won't be as strong as I thought, and my future batches will weight the hop schedule toward the end and include even more hops, we'll just have...

I winged it today: Galaxy Pale Ale

I thought about using a different hop for bittering actually. Maybe if I decide I like the Galaxy flavor I will use Magnum at 60 min and start the Galaxy hop schedule at 15 min- flameout as you suggested, on a future batch. I was going for a layered flavor profile with the hops and just...
