Looks like you guys had fun. One thing to watch out for though is disturbing the beer too much when pouring it through that strainer. The oxygen exposure can lead to off flavours.

I don't think you can go wrong with using Cascade. It's for sure one of my favorite hops.

Beer recipes scale so if you have a 5 gallon batch in mind just divide it out.

If you want to brew beer at home to save money you should probably just buy beer. Equipment can become expensive and well all know how addictive this hobby gets!
