    First Lager batches

In all honesty I didnt even check that yet. I figured I was probably going to be cutting it too close with the starter. With the Ales I usually time it to pitch the starter after 15 hours or so.

    Floor Burner

I use the same burner and I am satisfied with it. It takes a little bit of fine tuning to get the flame right, but it is very efficient. I do 75- 90 minute boil all grain batches and I get several weekends out of it. You could use the extra money that would go towards a blichmann burner and...

    First Lager batches

I plan on brewing my first 2 lager batches this weekend. I have 2 vials of WLP yeast (Pilsner yeast and German Lager) that are past their viability date (Oct 2). I have the option of a 2 and 1 liter flask alternating time on the stirplate, or using two 1 gallon wine jugs for possibly 3 liter...

Is my water OK to brew with?

When I first started brewing I would buy the Costco kirkland bottled water, the one with the with 6 one gallon containers. It made some great Beers but I got tired of making trips and waiting in line just for that

    Newbie looking to get brewing

It goes for $90. You can buy a stainless valve and thermometer from bargain fittings or Bobby Ms brewhardware.com for about $40 an have a goo kettle with everything you need under $150. I think morebeer will cut the lid for you if you buy the immersion wort chiller and free shipping

    Newbie looking to get brewing

I definitely recommend going with the full boil option. Morebeer has an economy 8 gallon modified kettle so you can and a ball valve and thermometer.

Is my water OK to brew with?

Just get yourself a carbon filter and you'll be fine. Water chemistry plays a bigger roll when doing all grain (I'd assume you are going with extract). You can always do a 50/50 mix of RO and your filtered house water

No Coriander- planned for a wit

f'n dog came by and dropped his f's rope/ chew toy right when I was done sparging and ready to boil. I am seriuously contemplating taking his a$$ to the pound (not really). I took off the lid to check the level in the kettle and he decides its a perfect time to play catch WTF. the F' with...

No Coriander- planned for a wit

Obviously I know the beer wont be a wit since it lacks the key ingredient. Maybe I am better off putting the starter in the fridge and back on the stir plate for next week

No Coriander- planned for a wit

So I am doing two batches today, a honey pale and a belgian wit. Got the Honey Pale mashing, about to put together the grains for my wit and I realized I am out of coriander. I have the 2 liter starters of each yeast ready to go. What kind of beer could I expect if I brew with simple grains and...

Single Tower, Dual Product (Guinness and Domestic)

What are the odds! I got the same model from work for free and it just came in. I am tempted to go with a 3 tap tower since I can fit 3 corny kegs in there

Temperature Control Device: What Are Some Good Options?

That exactly what I used for my chest freezer and it works perfectly. Plus it's dual stage. It's a quick project and easily half or three times cheaper than a ranco dual stage digital controller

    kegerator or keezer... free

Freezer came in today! Can't wait to get home and start drawing up keezer plans . Do far I have about $500 saved up so I might skip purchasing a pair of march pumps and buy all the hardware/ supplies for the keezer. I want 2-3 different pressures so it may add up

    Cutting up aluminum keg

So I got home and weighed the keg in question to another one that I know is SS. Just as heavy! To think I almost passed on a free keg because of a refrigerator magnet.

    Cutting up aluminum keg

Now I am not so sure it is aluminum. When my friend showed it to me I simply put a fridge magnet on it and it didn't stick so I figured it was aluminum. I guess I'll touch it with a grinder and see if it sparks.

    Cutting up aluminum keg

I didn't know about that. Might need to do some research before I mess it up then. Do you know where I could find info on that?
