    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Hm : / I am using a setup kind of like this; |--| |--| |--| |--| |--| |--| |--| |--| |--| HLT MLT BK The hose from hlt->mlt is about 7" long made of silicone. Water has a massive specific heat, I am not sure that is the problem, considering...

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Hm, but I want it to use the facts and figures to give me the actual value, based on specific heats of multiple substances. There is possibly a small heat-loss to the frame of the sculpture, but I would be surprised that it was 4 degrees. Rather than rule of thumbing, I am trying to get...

Substituting Table Sugar for Corn Sugar in an Imperial IPA

I only use table sugar, tastes great, helps to dry out higher gravity beers.

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Question to the devs: I have a custom 3 keggle set up for 10gallons. I used the specific heat and mass of stainless steel in the configuration when I set it up. I said ambient temp is around 60 for the steel (which it is, on my thermometers). I have ~20 pounds of grain for an average batch...

Building one piece at a time

I have a 3 keggle sculpture with a single march pump, propane fired. I am interested in automating slowly, pieces at a time. I see it going in a few small steps: 1) Get the PCB/Software and some temp probes up and running 2) Get some automated stuff going for the pump(s) to turn on...

the holy grail of hop filtering - whole and pellet

30 minutes of extra exposure to the hop material? Wouldn't that increase bittering since you're not cooling, you're just swirling, and it is quite high in temperature?

    Schwarzbier

The black lager (schwarzbier) I made for St Pats was amazing. Only 8 weeks in lager though, and high finishing gravity. Probably could have used more time before kegging. The primary reason they're overlooked is because it is a lager, and no one wants to cool their fermentation down. And...

10 gallon batches - only 2 people drinking it

Ok cool, I'll look into getting 5 for future batches. I am brewing 2-3x/month. When I was doing 5's, it definitely didn't last longer than the next batch was ready, but with double the output I am getting some overproduction. More kegs seems to be the answer, plus then I can try...

10 gallon batches - only 2 people drinking it

Found a place called plastic kegs america by browsing those classifieds you mentioned. looks like $45 for a plastic keg in a sixth barrel size. http://www.plastickegs.com/ edit: says on their site, minimum order of 5, and they claim their kegs are unsuitable for home brewing :( Wonder why.

10 gallon batches - only 2 people drinking it

... :( :p I did a 5 gallon marzen this weekend, it being the last weekend of marzen and all. my 15 gallon keggle for hot liquor doesn't like anything under 5 gallons to prime the suction. So the 20minute 120' 3gallon protein rest and the 2 gallon sparge didnt' work at all. Need to get a...

Refractometer / Brix - Final Gravity

Mine seem to be consistent, yes. Using roughly the same amount of grain/boiltimes/water I am getting roughly the same readings across multiple brews at roughly the same temps. I am just not sure if the ABV%'s I am seeing using this tool online are accurate...

10 gallon batches - only 2 people drinking it

I recently acquired a setup to to 10gal batches. I also acquired a few extra 6.5 and 5.0 carboys. My problem is now that I have about 20 gallons of beer coming on ( only 2 different styles) and I still have ~8 gallons in my 2 5.5gallon corneys in my tiny haier kegerator. 4 gallons...

Refractometer / Brix - Final Gravity

Hey all. I found this site: http://onebeer.net/refractometer.shtml It says it does the math to convert same-temp/accurate brix measurements from a refractometer to gravity readings. I am (and have been) using a refractometer to avoid beer waste. A few drops >> filling a hydrometer...
