Corn Sugar & DME in Starter

I'm about to make a 1 gal starter and I usually add about 12 oz of DME to it. I just realized all I have is about 8oz. Would it be ok adding 4 oz of Corn Sugar to get the gravity up? I'm brewing 10 gal IPA with gravity at about 1.070.

    My 2 Legged Hop Spider

Thanks to this board I made my own hop spider but simplified it with a length of 1/4" copper tubing I had laying around. I brewed a Dogfish Head 60 min IPA clone this past weekend and it worked great. I'm not sure if I needed to do this, but I kept lifting it up a little bit to get the hops...

Anyone Return Beer For A Refund?

That's a good way to look at it. So I wonder, is it up to the beer stores to send old beer back to the distributor, or is it up to the distributor to make sure the beer stores aren't selling old beer, or is it up to the breweries to check that the beer stores and distributors are pulling old...

Anyone Return Beer For A Refund?

How the brewery handles a problem is a big factor. The responding e-mail I got from the brewery was very apologetic and thanked me for bringing it to his attention. He really wants to make good on this. Which is great. But, if this happens again, I won't be buying anymore. Who needs the hassle.

Anyone Return Beer For A Refund?

I hadn't thought about how it could hurt the whole industry. I was just thinking about the brewery itself.

Anyone Return Beer For A Refund?

There's nice restaurant nearby with a good tap selection, and about 10 years ago, I only had 3 beers, but the next morning I had the biggest headache and felt sick for about a day. It didn't a cure to me that it might be dirty beer lines until I was talking to a buddy who had the same experience...

Good point. BTW, I meant to post this in the "General Beer Discussion" area. How do I move this thread?

Anyone Return Beer For A Refund?

I recently bought a 6 pack of a locally brewed beer, and it was bad, as in old. It was just a glass of foam and smelled musty. I e-mailed the brewery and someone got back to me within a day, so that what good. I was told that I could bring the beer to the brewery for a fresh 6 pack or bring it...

How Much Will You Pay For Beer?

One of my favorite beers is Stone's Ruination. I went to grab a 6 pack the other day, until I noticed the price was almost $19.00. I think that was the first time I put a beer back on the shelve because of the price. I understand what's involved in producing these high end beers, but I can buy...

    Rust in my Keezer

I recently noticed a whole bunch of small rust spots on the inside of my keezer. The spots kind of look like splattered beer. Initially that's what I thought it was, until I tried to do a thorough cleaning, and noticed that most of them were rust spots I bought it new about 3 or 4 year ago to...

Transfering to secondary from primary underpressure

Works great for me. I don't have to move the fermenter, and there's nothing easier than pushing beer with CO2 from keg to keg.

    aeration question

I use an aquarium pump with a stainless aeration stone & inline filter and this works great for me. The concerns I have with a regular aquarium stone is, how well can you sanitize it, and you'll have to figure a way to get it to sink, as they tend to float.

Transfering to secondary from primary underpressure

I brew 10 gallon batches and use a 10 corny keg to ferment in. I drilled the lid and attached a blow off tube. After fermentation I put a regular lid on, pressurize and transfer to two 5 gal cornies with CO2. Not sure if this answers your question.
