    Would you make a starter?

I would definitely make a starter for the simple reason that it ensures a proper pitching rate. I don't know that there's many people on this forum that would advise you not to make one.

    What are you drinking now?

O'Fallon Smoked Porter and some of my IBA. Good stuff.

    What are you drinking now?

Just finished an O'Fallon Pumpkin Ale and am currently sipping on a pint of homebrewed imperial stout. Yum.

    Hops in deoderant

So, my wife bought my son some natural deodorant. I looked at it and wondered what natural ingredient they use to combat odor since deodorant is kind of like wearing a fragrance and fragrances are usually made of chemical compounds that aren't natural. Well, by the name of this thread, you...

    Pitch New Yeast?

Good lesson learned though to always have some S-05 on hand. It comes through in a pinch and is a great yeast in its own right. ...and you didn't have to learn it the hard way because you will soon have beer on hand. :)

A Brutus 10 question for Lonnie Mac

Lonnie Mac, I tried to PM you but your inbox was full. I ordered the plans for the Brutus 10 plans from BYO magazine but I hear that a more detailed set exists. Would you please send them to me? kurtz.josh at gmail dot com. Thanks! Let me know when you're in the Memphis, TN area and I'll treat...

Poll: What method do you brew with?

I like doing all-grain but I do mostly extract due to time constraints. I can make a great beer with extract though so this isn't always a bad thing.

Does anyone else think Sam Adam's beer sucks

Most of their beers are great.

    Your LHBS

There are two in my area. One is great with a very helpful and friendly owner. The other is allright but the owner is a little weird.

    Muntons or Briess?

I've used both many times and prefer whichever is less expensive. This is usually Briess, due to geography I suppose. If I were in the UK, I would use Muntons (or a generic version) as it would probably be cheaper.

Who carries the best extract kits ?

True Brew kits are great. I've made a lot of them and find them to be on par with anything at Northern Brewer or Midwest (haven't tried AHS). My LHBS carries True Brew and they're all I used for awhile. I order mostly from Northern Brewer simply because my LHBS isn't very local and I don't...

    Beer in Chicago

I haven't tried Pipeworks but it sure is a cool label! I only paid $8.99 for my bomber of Panzer. I wince at paying that much but it's much better than the $12 mentioned above.

    Beer in Chicago

Arctic Panzer Wolf. I'm already planning another trip up there so I can visit 3 Floyds.:rockin:

    I'm over carboys...

I have one bucket and two glass carboys, a 6.5 and 5 gallon. I like using the bucket for primary simply because it is easier to pour the beer into the bucket as I do mostly extract brews as of late and find it easier to pour, pitch, and go.

    Beer in Chicago

I'm back in Mississippi, just now checking back on this thread, and did not go to Binny's. It's at the top of my list when I come back to Chicago, though. I did, however, manage to score the last bomber of 3 Floyds Imperial IPA at Jewel Osco last night. I brought it home and had it tonight...

    Beer in Chicago

Looks like I need to come back again as I only have one more day. I'm with my wife and kids, who aren't too thrilled about visiting breweries so it's more about what I can find at the Jewel Osco next to the hotel (Homewood Suites - Downtown). I'll print out a list of what was suggested so far...

    Beer in Chicago

I'm in Chicago for the weekend, which gives me the opportunity to try some beers I've never had before. I had an Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, which was extremely good, a Founders Red's Rye PA, a Goose Island Frere Jacques and Sofie. All were great with the Edmund Fitzgerald being a slight favorite...

Simmering a tripel? Would it work?

Thanks for the replies everyone! I went ahead and tried option 1. I did it at my parents' house since I didn't want to experiment on my healing wife. The smell was minimal so I think I found a way to brew bigger beers without driving her crazy. I pitched a growler full of a Wyeast 1214 starter...

Simmering a tripel? Would it work?

For what it's worth, the LME I'm using is Gold syrup from Northern Brewer.
