    Activated smack pack right out of fridge

    I was in a rush to get out of the door this morning, and wanted to activate my yeast to make a starter tonight. I grabbed the pack out of the fridge and then smacked it...not thinking that it's still cold. It's sitting on the counter now, warming up. Should I be worried?

    Covering the carboy when aerating?

    I'm about to try an aquarium pump/diffusion stone this weekend to aerate my wort. I know I should probably let it aerate for 30 minutes, but during that time should I be worried about contamination with the carboy mouth being left open? I'd imagine that it's probably not good to use a rubber...
