    I recently purchased a 6.5 gallon carboy that I plan to use as a primary and I also purchased a 6 gallon PET carboy. My question is will the 6 gallon be to big for secondary? Can you have to much headspace in a carboy that will affect the beer? Also when transfering to a secondary does it...

    specialty grain?

    I'am wondering what the correct way to steep specialty grains in a extract batch. Do you heat the water to 155-165°F then put in grains for 20-30 minutes or do you put them in right away and take them out when the water reaches 170°f or does it make a difference? Thanks in advance for the help.

    I just finished up with my second extract kit. I followed the instructions exactly as written and I was supposed to be at 1.040 for the og but I ended up at 1.052.
