    Sixpoint Sweet Action Clone?

okay, so its been a while and this beer is long gone, but I figured I'd let everyone know it came out fantastic - maybe the best beer I've made so far. That being said, it didn't taste dead on at all. Some of the folks who tried mine side by side with the real thing liked it more (but maybe...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

Wow, I just came on here to look for a Heady Topper recipe having no idea it was some mysterious unattainable holy grail....has anyone come up with a recipe thats halfway similar without getting too fancy? Or even a suggestion for something I might like if I happen to like Heady, without...

    Sixpoint Sweet Action Clone?

I'm trying it this week too - using this recipe: http://hopville.com/recipe/716495 I couldn't find Horizon either (not that I looked all that hard), so I'm subbing Magnum instead. I'm also going to dry hop with simcoe instead of glacier just because I got glacier in pellets and would rather...

    Sixpoint Sweet Action Clone?

I'm thinking of brewing this soon - anyone have any new recipe tweaks since this thread happened in 2011? btw, utopeya, I noticed you're in Providence too - in case you haven't found it yet they have Sweet Action in cans at the English Ale House off Thayer Street...

    Final Gravity a little high?

Ah that makes sense that the extract has something to do with it. One more reason to switch to all grain! (which I'll be trying out for the first time this weekend!) Two more questions - how do I figure out how much of that yeast to use? And do I need to do anything to make sure the rest...

    Final Gravity a little high?

1.010 came from the recipe - one of yours, actually! (By the way I have brewed a couple of your recipes and they have been excellent, I'm sure this will be no exception!) Actually reading the recipe is the only method I have used to find expected FG, I'm still fairly new at this. This is a...

    Final Gravity a little high?

how about for an IPA? my FG is 1.017, should have been 1.010. Does anyone know why this happens? Is it related to temp somehow? (I think my mash temp was a little lower than it should have been, fermentation temp a little higher)....thanks!

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

I just tried this out without the ss washer inside (couldn't find them anywhere)......definitely leaky. I saw a few of you said you ended up having to buy 5/8" ss washers in large quantities - I'd like to buy one or two from someone. Message me if you have extras, I'll pay postage of course!

    broke my thermometer!

hah! Thanks for that one.... I guessed on the sparge water, now I'm halfway through the boil and debating running out to buy a thermometer once the kettle is in the ice bath, or just guessing before I pitch. My plan was to get it down to temp and then dilute in the fermentor on top of...

    broke my thermometer!

Nope....one draw back to a vegetarian household, never had a need for one. I guess I could go out and buy one...

    broke my thermometer!

Floating thermometer made it through my first 3 batches, but just now it ever so gently tapped the bottom of the pot and smashed. Good news: I was just checking the temp of sparge water...at least it didn't break in the wort. Bad news: now how do I make sure the sparge water is the right...

Single hop - Cascade or Chinook?

Thanks everyone, I'm leaning towards Cascade this time around (no extra bucket to split a batch). How's this sound: 6 lbs light DME 1 lb crystal malt (just happen to have leftover) whole leaf Cascade hops: 0.5 oz at 60 min 1 oz at 30 min 0.5 oz at 10 min I also have about a pound of...

Single hop - Cascade or Chinook?

I'm trying to decide what to brew next (so far I've done two batches: a red ale and I've got a porter ready to bottle...). Thinking about a partial mash batch with just Cascade...or just Chinook (whole from a local grower). Maybe a pale ale? How should I decide? Anyone have any...

    Just shy of target FG

Noob problems....my second batch ever (a partial mash Black Butte Porter clone) got off to a bit of a warm start (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/warm-winter-new-england-ferment-temp-trouble-302264/) Now it is going on week 3 in primary. OG was 1.051 (shy of the target 1.053), and FG target...

Warm Winter in New England...ferment temp trouble

Alright, temp is around 67*, gravity is 0.016 but no more visible signs of fermentation. I took a sip expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised - its still a bit sweet but it tasted great. I'll check gravity again today or tomorrow, hopefully things are still happening in there. It...

A month! Should I still do a secondary after that?

Warm Winter in New England...ferment temp trouble

Ok - blanket is off and she is cooling down, bucket is still a bit warm to the touch but must be approaching the ambient 66* room temp. Before taking off the blanket it was still bubbling 2-3 times per minute, but now bubbling has stopped. I suppose I'll wait and check SG tomorrow....sure hope...

Warm Winter in New England...ferment temp trouble

So I started brewing a few weeks ago with an extract kit, and during a cold snap fermentation got stuck at 1.020....I wrapped my bucket in an electric blanket, and sure enough the bubbles started up again and reached the target FG in a couple days. Fast Forward to Batch #2....I got a partial...
