Really thick krausen (?) on top after weeks of primary

Thanks. I did not use whirlfloc. I cooled the wort with a CFC directly into the fermenter. Temp was a bit high, so I packed some ice bottles around the bucket, surrounded with R15 insulation, until it hit 70 deg, then pitched the yeast because the “ideal” temps for that yeast are 59-71. Wort was...

Really thick krausen (?) on top after weeks of primary

Howdy, folks. I’ve brewed off and on for years, first with extract kits and the last couple of years all-grain with a Spike Solo 10 gal. Still a beginner. I recently brewed a Founders Breakfast Stout clone using a recipe from Jasper’s Homebrew here in NH. Brew day was 6/4. I’ve had the beer in...

Starting simple everyday cider with unacidified juice

Thanks everyone for the awesome advice. I just got a pH meter this week, for testing my elderberries. I've been wanting to make cider for years. I reckon I have years of experimentation ahead of me. We have Harrison, Virginia, and Wickson crabapples and a Liberty apple planted that should start...

Starting simple everyday cider with unacidified juice

Howdy, folks. I'm looking at this old post: Everyday Simplest Dry Cider phug stated "For a 5 gallon batch, purchase 19 litres / 5 gallons of store brand/whatever is cheapest filtered, pasteurized apple juice with vit c added. Avoid the low acid juices." The only cider I have access to is 100%...

Homebrew Talk Super Awesome Happy Funtime Giveaway

Thanks @TxBrew. The first beer I brewed was a brown ale from a kit during the fall when we were invaded by Asian ladybugs. In an old house, they get everywhere. When I racked to secondary, I discovered I had unknowingly added a secret ingredient to the primary. Thus was born Ladybug Brown Ale...

    Perlick 575SS faucets leak

Howdy, folks. I have a two tap kegerator. My wife bought me some beautiful, fairly heavy, wooden tap handles for Christmas. The two standard faucets were sticking every few days, so I started squirting them up the spout with a Star-San solution at the end of a day when were finished pouring...
