    Keggin' finally!

I've got 8 batches under my belt now and have kegged the last 7. When I'm done fermenting my brew I transfer it to a keg crank the gas to 30 psi and throw it in the fridge at 42-45 and if i feel like it I'll give it a little shake/swirl every once in a while to get some more CO2 in there and...

    Cheap ball lock kegs.

I can vouch for them, bought one a while back and have put 15 gallons thru it so far without a hitch, had a little ding here and the but came very clean and def gets the job done.

    Slight CO2 smell from keezer

CO2 has no odor. Soapy water is the only way I know of to check for leaks and it works great but you should give it about a min and then check it, dawn soap works great. But really, you can't smell CO2.

    best northern brewer ipa?

Got their Black IPA kegged up right now and love it! Great hop profile. Almost reminds me of a real light bodied Imperial Stout if that makes any sense. next up Sinistral Warrior, I've read that it isn't hoppy enough for most ppl so I might tweak it a bit.

Diminishing hop flavor in my IPA.

Hey guys, Made NB's Black IPA extract kit and it really is awesome but the great hop flavor is starting to fade after about 10 days in the keg. It's still really good but nowhere near as fresh and hoppy as it was in the first 3-5 days. I dry hopped in a nylon mesh bag in the secondary for 6...

    Stove top boil issues.

UPDATE: So I kept the LME in a separate pot for this last batch and had the water around 180 and it really did the trick, much better boil, didnt take much time at all to get back up to temp. Thanks guys!

    Stove top boil issues.

Not big enough for 2 burner sadly, it's definitely flat too. I'm really liking the heat stick idea even though it seems like a little bit of a pain in the ass. I'm all about making stuff myself to save a penny.

    Stove top boil issues.

Great, I hadn't thought of that, so added LME at flameout shouldn't really affect the flavor in any way?

    Stove top boil issues.

Hey guys, I've been having trouble reaching a really good rolling boil on my electric stove top and it's not really an option at this point to get an outdoor gas burner. After reaching a boil and adding LME (that I've warmed in a hot water in the sink) it takes a good 15 min to get back up to...

Should I pitch more yeast to naturally carb? 6.3% ABV

It's for a Black IPA (OG 1066) that I have going right now that is sitting at 1.020 right now after 2 weeks in the primary and I plan on transferring to a secondary for another 2 weeks, dry hopping the last week. I will be kegging the batch but I was thinking I'd let it carb naturally just...

What are the benefits of liquid yeast compared to dry?

On my 4th batch this weekend and I've only used liquid yeast. My next beer is the first I've felt the need to make a starter for and I really started to think what is the benefit of liquid yeast when you need to make a starter instead of just adding more dry yeast? Is it the variety? Flavors...

Should I make a yeast starter for a 1.075 OG?

Well, the starter is done, had a few homebrews, relaxed, put a little more DME than I intended, boiled off a little more water than expected, and ended up with a started at 1.053 and I would say about a 1/3 of a gal. Not worried about it at all at this point and I'm sure it will be fine. My 72...

Should I make a yeast starter for a 1.075 OG?

Great responses, thanks guys. I've decided to go with the starter, making it tonight, 24hrs from now I'll refrigerate it (i'll be out of town for part of the week at Cigar City's brewery event) and brew sunday. I have one pound of DME and I'm not positive on the DME to water ratio I should use...

Should I make a yeast starter for a 1.075 OG?

I had planned on it and was under the impression that I would need to with this big of a beer but one of the brewers at my LHBS said that it really wasn't necessary, just add yeast nutrients in the last 10-15 min of the boil. I'm making NB's Black Ipa extract kit with WYEAST 1272 American II...

    keg help

I recently bought 2 ball locks for my freshly converted mini fridge. I got ball locks bc I happened to find them cheaper but if I had gotten pin locks I wouldn't have been able to fit 2 in the kegerator due to the slightly larger diameter (without a little more modification) So I'd say check...

Primary fermenter leaking, transferred to bottling bucket and back to primary...

Well, I've got bubbles coming thru my fermentation indicator so we'll see how it turns out :)

Primary fermenter leaking, transferred to bottling bucket and back to primary...

This is my third batch and I'm kinda worried. Brewing Northern Brewers Bavarian Hefe and everything went great up until pouring my cooled wort into my primary. Before I pitched the yeast I noticed a small leak from the spigot. I'm using a swamp cooler and was worried about the swamp cooler water...

    Kegerator compatible mini fridge?

It looks the same model that I have and converted to a kegerator very easily, I haven't used it yet because my beer isn't ready to keg yet but I did bend the freezer tray down very carefully and cut out the door shelving. So it can be done but how good it works at keeping everything cold i can't...
