    water on tap

ok, I know that water is ONLY an ingredient, NOT a final product, but there are times I would like a cold glass of water in the sunroom where my kergrator resides. I have built a system that uses water from the hose to the gas in port on the keg, and out thru an open tap. the only problem I see...

    Free Bottles!!!

Anyone in Memphis area want free bottles? I have a BUNCH of free 12 oz bottles, have to throw them away soon if no one grabs 'em... Norm

What to do with some nasty wine?

I have 5 gallons of red and 5 gallons of white that turned out barely drinkable, (and I can drink just about anything). If I had a still, and it was legal, I'd probably try to make something else out of it, but I don't, and it is, so I am left to dump it on the ground. Seems kinda sad. Any...

    scale to measure Co2 use

Thought about making a balance beam type scale to hang my Co2 tank from to monitor Co2 use. I'm no good at trigonometry (or is it Geometry?) but if I made a pivot point, and four inches away on one side, hung the tank, and 20 inches away on the other side, hung a counter weight, I should be able...

Bought a Co2 cylinder off ebay, turns out as Pepsi's

As the title says, I received my 20 lb cylinder today from a seller in Florida, and it has return for deposit Pepsi Orlando stickers on it. Will take it to my gas dealer tomorrow, but this was not disclosed in the auction, and I am sure it will not be usable to me. Any ideas? contact ebay and...

    Help me brew today 4-21-08

as stated, I'm brewing 2 batches right now! 1 is a Kolsh from Austin Homebrew, the other is a Blond Ale also AHS. the water is heating now, I want to do a late extract addition and I have a pound and a half of raw, unprocessed honey, I'd like to add to one or split between both, also would...

    does anybody make mixed beers?

Call me a heretic if you will, but I have developed a odd habit of drawing a cocktail of different beer in the same cup. It started innocently enough as a way to combat over bitter brown ale, I figured I'd drop a little Heffe in to counter the bitterness. Last weekend my wife drew me a...

    fermented root beer?

just made up a f gallon keg of extract root beer, and wondered if anyone has let it ferment , and how it would taste? I may do a gallon or so just to see...

go into secondary a day early??

I have gotten off work a couple of hours early and after six days am thinking about transfering my pale ale to secondary, but wondering if there will be any problem if fermentation is not completely finished.

    how important is minimal headspace?

Made 2 batches 4 gallon of "wine" with concord and wit grapes, and just read in an unrelated post that headspace needs to kept to a minimum, so since they are 4 gallon batches in 5 gallon carboys and they are a month and a half old, are they messed up? and if not what is the fix? I looked at...

    stainless vs brass

just got 4 brass/chrome taps on e-bay for 20 bux. are the stainless really that much better? I wanted ventmatics, but at 50 bucks plus for a complete tap, shank, etc, I just have to try to piece something together a little easier on the pocketbook. I suppose I should squirt a little water or...

Is this the vent-matic I'm looking for?

These look like a great price, but i want the real thing...

    unusually bitter Newcastle clone

as the title says, I did a newcastle clone from AHBS and it is conditioning for a couple of weeks. drew some off yesterday to sample and add to steak marinade and SWMBO said it was too bitter for her. Since she is the one I brew this for, I need to get it right... Any suggestions? could I...

    A couple of collar questions

I am getting ready to do a collar on my deep-fridge, and am wondering how tall is too tall? If I raise the lid 8 inches or so, I can put kegs on the shelf where the compressor is. What holds the collar in place when the top is being opened and closed? Any suggestions are welcome, thanks Norm

will propane burner run on natural gas?

Have been wondering if anyone has tried it, and are the neccesary fittings hard to get. Since we can adjust the air inlet of the burners, that shouldn't be a problem, and it would save worrying about swapping tanks, since I have a heater close to where I boil... Norm

    slower primaries with steeping grains?

Did a clone of Newcastle Brown from AHB on Monday, and it took about 48 hours for the bubbles to start. I just relaxed. the rate never got past a bubble every 25 seconds or so. I didn't worry. The bubbles seem to have stopped. I had a homebrew. just for kicks, I tested the sg. It was 1.021, a...

Found some junk in a Blue Moon Wheat

Lemme preface this with. SWMBO calls me a sissy for opening a bottle/can of commercial beer and pouring it into a glass. Last night we were drinking a couple of Blue Moon Belgian Wheats, a long time favorite, when I poured mine up, I noticed that there were 20 or so tiny, floaties in the glass...

    preservative qualities of CO2?

Don't know where to post this, but it hit me yesterday, when looking for a place to store some rice and beans, that I have some extra airtight containers sitting next to my deep fridge!! I got 70 pounds of rice in two kegs, and put about 10 lbs of co2 in to purge the o2. Anybody ever done any...

no airlock activity in white grape joice

ok, I know this is probably not a cool thing to do, but knowing nothing about wine, I decided to try a couple of batches and run them similar to my apfelwien. What can go wrong? right Well, the "red" or concord grape and red star red wine yeast is chugging along nicely at 44 hours, and the...

    oak aging some wine

ok, this is just a thrown together batch of about 2 gallons of concord and a gallon of white grape juice, and yeast, but I do want to puy in some oak chips to simulate barrel aging. any idea how much oak and how long to age? Norm
