Long Trail rocks (Harvest Ale recipe in thread)

It just so happens that Long Trail Harvest is my wife's favorite beer so I set out to make her a batch. On a whim I submitted the 'contact us' form on Long Trail's site not expecting much. The response I got was great - 4/5 paragraphs of information from their Asst Quality Assurance Manager...

    Another Beersmith 1.x gravity question

All- The way I'm familiar with calculating gravity is the extract potential expressed in points per gallon multiplied by amount divided by wort volume multiplied by brewhouse efficiency %. gravity = (potential * amount)/volume * efficiency% I'm going to use a simplified recipe with...

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2011/02/15/133777064/the-coca-cola-recipe-revealed-by-this-american-life I've never made soda, but this seems pretty interesting. Just thought I'd share. :)

Source for illuminated AC rocker switches

Anyone have a good source for these? I see a ton of illuminated switches on sites like mcmaster, newark, etc but these are *always illuminated*. I just want the led lit when the circuit is on. Any illuminated SPST rocker switches I've come across have all been DC (radioshack).

Wiring help - dual level grant float

Instead of forking over almost $200 for Morebeer's dual level float, I figured it couldn't be that difficult (or $$) to build my own. I want to use it to control the wort level in my brutus grant so I don't have to constantly readjust the valves controlling the pump flow. I was planning...

Recirculation issues that aren't pump related

I have a Brutus single tier setup and yesterday was my second attempt at a 10 gallon batch. I've done about 15 or so 5-gallon batches on this setup w/o this issue. The issue is, when recirculating while I'm mashing the flow is frustratingly slow. It's so slow, that when my mash falls below...

Single pass chilling vs. Recirculating w/ Therminator

Peeps- I was wondering how most of the Therminator users here chill? Do you chill on one pass with the 'Wort Out' on the Therminator going right to the carboy? Or do you recirculate while chilling with the 'Wort Out' going back to your BK? I attempted my first whirlpool while using...

    UPS! *sniff*

My wife's in California and scored me 12 Pliny the Elders. She packed 6 in one box, 4 in another and is carrying the remaining 2 on her carry-on. She gets a call today from UPS saying they severely damaged the box with 6 in them! And of course they can't refund anything because it's against...

    Fermentation chamber

I wanted to post these completed pics because I owe a debt of gratitude to those that have blazed this trail before me! I would have never figured out the programming or wiring of the TSS2-2100 had it not been for this thread ...

    Valley Fermenters Competition

Anyone enter this competition : ValleyFermenters? I sent in two entries, a total of 6 bottles, and they arrived at the competition location yesterday, just under the deadline of December 2nd. I go to their site yesterday and it says it's rescheduled until March 2010! Of course, I emailed...

Lune’ d’bleu (Belgian Wit - Pearl Street Grill and Brewery Winner)

This received a score of 197 out of a possible 295 in the Pearl Street Grill and Brewery Brewmaster's Challenge. It's a pretty simple recipe, but using Indian coriander and fresh orange zest along with the ginger made it stand out over the other entries. I used the zest from 2.5 navel...

Yep, another jet burner problem thread :)

I decided to start another thread regarding jet burner problems. I have the low pressure propane 21 tip jet burners from MoreBeer. I have them connected to a brutus gas beam. My original problem was when I had my propane connected via a low pressure regulator, (mostly) everything worked...

    Wire March 809 myself?

In order to save a couple bucks, I think I'm going to get the March 809 w/ the 3' cord as opposed to the 6'. Does anyone know how difficult it is to open the pump housing if I want to wire in a longer cord?

Adding orange to Wit after kegged

I recently brewed a Belgian Wit and used fresh orange zest. I kegged the beer over a week ago, and while it's nice and carbonated, I can't really taste the orange all that much, just mainly the coriander. Anyone know of anything I can add to the keg to give the orange flavor a bit of a boost? :)

Square tub caps for brutus (steel or plastic)?

Title pretty much says it all. I finished welding up my Brutus stand and I want to cap the top opening of the four legs. I found some square tubing caps online, plastic and metal. Do I go with the plastic or metal ones? Does anyone know if their stand gets hot enough on the very top to the...

Correct wire gauge for control panel

I'm currently building a Brutus-clone and I'm wondering what gauge wire I should be using for inside the control panel? This will be 100v and on it there will be two TS-Love controllers, two March pumps model 809-HS-PL and two STC normally closed gas valves connected to the power. I know...

Good resources to teach yourself wiring/electrical

I plan on building my own brutus-10 rig once the weather gets warmer. I'm initially going to keep things manual, just because of my lack of electrical expertise. That brings me to my question, does anyone have a good resource or book(s) that can at least lead me in the right direction. I'm...

Word of warning : Don't Leave Full CO2 Tanks in Hot Car!

Yep, went and exchanged my C02 tank yesterday during my lunch break and left it in the backseat of my truck. I came out after work and I knew something was strange when all the papers that were originally in my back seat were all in my front seat! That, and the tank had condensation on it...

Will this welder do the trick for building a rig?

I want to learn how to weld for building my brew rig. Is this worth the $100 as a starter welder? I know that 110v welders have their limitations, but I'm just wondering if I'd be able to get by using this if I were to build my rig using .120 gauge steel square bar on my rig. Says ok for...
