The "best" formula for finding ABV...

I've seen three or four different formulas for finding ABV, can anyone steer me in the right direction? Preliminary readings indicate an OG of 1.048, and a FG of 1.014. :mug: We should bottle this weekend. Dale

    "Yin-Yang Ale" blows its top...

    Bottled 1st batch, so ABV...

Malkore, Didn't boil over... but I'm not too sure about the "carmelization" thing. Could you elaborate a bit? Instead of corn sugar we used Amber DME. As for the instructions on the Cooper's lid, those got pitched almost immediately. Pretty useless. We're already planning our next...

    First batch problems (yeast??)

Well, There is about a 1/2 inch-1inch head in the fermenter, and no activity in the airlock..... until I filled it to the proper level. Once I had enough water in the thing it began to hop and bubble quite vigorously. Thanks for the encouragement.

    "Proper" glassware for drinking?

Now to me, before my foray into homebrewing began, all this meant was that the container holding by beer wasn't leaking. Appearently this is not the case. Not meaning to belittle the philosophy, nor be mercilessly flamed here, but what glass goes with what style, and just how important is...

    First batch problems (yeast??)

Pitched my first batch last night. Really simple, Cooper's syrup (wheat), amber DME. "reconstituted" the yeast and pitched about 11pm last night. Nothing happens. 8am this morning had 1/2 inch of foam, no activity in the air-lock. 1:30pm today, 1 inch+ of foam, still no bubbling in...
