    first AG

I am thinking about doing my first AG. I converted a 5 gal Igloo cooler I had laying around by adding a SS braid and a ball valve and have a converted keg a friend let me have for a while. I've been looking at some Hef recipes and it looks like most of them are 5-7 lbs wheat/4-6 lbs munich or...

priming a wit in the keg

I kegged a wit (AHS blue moon clone) last Sunday. OG was 1.053, FG 1.012 I used the priming sugar that came with the kit, which I poured into the sanitized keg, then racked the beer on top of it. Then before sealing the keg, I hooked up my bottling wand to a short picnic tap to bottle a 12...

    near the end

Is it normal for the last bit of a keg to be more foamy. Not sure exactly how close to the end I'm getting but the keg is getting pretty light. It has been pouring nicely up to now and if anything I lowered the CO2 pressure a little when I refilled the tank the other day.

    False bottom

I wonder if something like this could be used to make a false bottom for a tun or kettle. http://products.smallappliance.com/mr_coffee_113811_001_000_brew_basket_lid_10432141.php Would have to find one with the right diameter, but could be cheaper...

    equipment questions

I have a few extract batches done and am looking at trying some PMs or maybe even AG. Right now I have a 20qt kettle and realized I will need something bigger for AG (maybe the king kooker 30qt with burner set up for $90). I have a 5 gal igloo water cooler type jug from back when I coached...

    3rd batch in

For my birthday yesterday, my wife helped me brew the blue moon extract kit I got from Austins. The WLP 400 liquid yeast was a little more that a week past its best by date, so I made a 1.5 liter starter on Saturday and the krausen on the starter was just starting to fall by the time we were...

    Pressure and line length

I bought a keg set up from a guy, 4 kegs and a refrigerated, 4 tap, premix dispenser. I am in the process of testing it out, so I just tried a keg of water. I put 30 psi (it's about 65-68 F in that room) on the keg and let it sit for a couple days with the occasional shaking and checking the...

    thoughts on keg cooler

I was looking in my basement for a place to set up the kegs I will be getting soon and had a thought. I have a water softener that we are not using. What if I was to build an insulated box large enough to hold the kegs and run 100' or so of PEX around the inside of the box connected to the...

    kegging question

I am about to get a set of kegs, CO2 bottles and a 4 tap chiller from a friend next payday and he has offered to give me one of the kegs early. I have a stout that I was going to bottle this weekend. Would it work to just rack it into the keg with the priming sugar and let it carb/condition...

    Good deal

Had a friend offer me a system with four 5 gal kegs, 2 CO2 bottles, and a 4 tap cornelius in-line chiller for $350. Sounds like a good deal to me :mug:

    should I repitch

I bewed a stout using WLP013 that I left in primary for almost 2 weeks. I wanted to try saving the yeast so I racked it over to a secondary and pretty much followed the yeast washing sticky. So now I have 4 small jars in the fridge will 1/4 inch or so of yeast solids in them. The...

Wort at 20 min into boil, yeast starter waiting to be introduced to it.

    first starter

I am about to make my second batch, the AHS dble choc stout. I got the kit a couple weeks ago and just haven't had time to brew it so was thinking I need to do a starter for the liquid yeast. I've read a lot of threads saying to do a 1 liter starter - let it ferment all the way out, cold crash...

    gotta love her

She bought me a kit for Christmas that came with ingredients for the first batch, which will hit the "3 week in bottles" mark this weekend. She already encouraged me to buy a couple more ingredient kits which arrived on Tuesday. Then yesterday she was out shopping and noticed that they had...

    first batch in the bottles

Bottled my first batch Saturday. Checked the gravity and it was still 1.013, same as it was last Sunday. Am thinking I need to buy a bucket for next time. My kit came with 2 carboys. As I was trying to tilt the carboy and keep the siphon going to fill up bottle #48, the bottle tipped on the...

    Fermentation temp

I have my first batch brewing, a basic pale ale about 2 weeks in. I have it going in the basement about 2' from my water heater. The first week and a half or so it was maintaining the temp pretty well right around 66-64 F. The last 3-4 days its dropped and is sitting more around 62. I'm...

    First brew

My wife got me (us) a kit for Christmas. It came with the cleaning supplies, 2 5 gal carboys, a 20 qt brew kettle and the ingredients for a first batch ( a pale ale I think). It had some crystal malt for steeping, a can of lightly hopped malt extract, a bag of DME, a bag of malto dextrin, and...
