    can it be done...lager starter

Can I build up a big enough starter for a 12gal batch of 1050 lager in a 2 liter flask? How many times would I need to build it up?

    Dry Hopping unhealthy wtf?

As for infecting the beer, hop resins coat the outer surface of bactia and other microbes and inhibit their ability to reproduce or do anything. Dry hopping has a similar effect of yeast. Bottle conditioning takes a while longer if the beer was dry hopped.

    Primary Fermentation then Dry-Hop

If your not getting enough dry hop character from dry hopping in the primary you are not waiting long enough to dry hop. The vigour of the fermentation drives off the hop aromatics and if a bunch of yeast is still in suspension it will pull the hop particles out of solution with it as it...

    Primary Fermentation then Dry-Hop

I've found that hop bags are unnessesary and counterproductive for dry hopping. If you have the ability to cold crash, just freeball those hops in the carboy. They will drop out of solution when you crash it. You may have to rock the carboy a little to break the surface tension.

    whirlpooling

I finally got a diverter which allows me to pull wort from the side of my kettle instead of the middle. I've atempted twice to do a whirlpool and neither were successful. I'm interested to hear from people who whirlpool as a part of their process. Any advice or tips?

    any advice on comings?

Yea, my autocorrect changed finings to comings. Sorry for the confusion. And the slighty sexual connotation. Yea I normally use whirfloc in my boil but like I said, I ran out. So I'm specifically looking for advice on finings that you use post fermentation, like gelatin, and isinglass.

    any advice on comings?

I was brewing a double batch. I mashed in what is normally my boil kettle and the false bottom for it really sucks. All kinds of grain matter got through and to top it off I ran out of whirfloc! So I'm thinking about giving finings a shot. Should I fine before or after I dry hop? Does anyone...

    FWH Amarillo

I'm assuming when you fwh you are removing those hops before the boil gets going. Looking at his recipe it looks like he's leaving them in and using the fwh for bittering as well.

    FWH Amarillo

I wouldn't worry about the alpha per say. However amarillo has unusually high mercyne (spelling), which when boiled a lot can have a petrolium taste. And since amarillo is so scarce this year I would use it where it really counts, near the end of the boil for flavor and aroma additions. There...

    Unexplained loss of C02!!!!!!

Yea, make sure your tank is all the way open and keep in mind that everything shrinks in the fridge. So an hour or two after first putting your tank in the fridge, go back in to retighten all your connections and check for leaks.

    1st Kegging-Having Big Problems

A quick way to unclog the dip tube is by attaching the gas to the out post. The pressure ussually clears any clogs.

    has anyone brewed with rice?

I'm not necessarily looking for flavor as much as the fluffy mouthfeel that I've been told rice imparts.

    has anyone brewed with rice?

I've been wanting to brew a rice pilsner agressively hopped with sorachi ace. Has anyone brewed with rice? Does anyone have any advice or techniques to share. I figured I'd use jasmine rice for its refined flavor and I'd through in a ton of rice hulls so the mash doesn't gum up on me.

    lagering question

Honestly. If its already at 65 I don't think that a while longer at 70 is going to do it any harm although I'm sure some purists may dissagree. And it may really help clean the beer of diasytl and other byproducts. The biggest concern with letting it sit that warm is its more suseptible to...

new march pump and therminator setup

Thanks for the advice guys. The dry run helped me identify some leaks and the fact that I needed a different hose attachment. Having the pump verticle does seem to work best. Now have a double batch of my falconer's flight pale ale fermenting.

That sounds awesome. Let me know how it turns out. The cool thing is you can mess around with different blends.

new march pump and therminator setup

I've finally got everything I need to use my therminator and march pump setup. I'm going to do a test run in two days by boiling water in my kettle and running it through the pump and chiller. I'm curious if anyone has any advice to share about march pumps and plate chillers. I'm particularly...
