Grey Lady (Cisco Brewers) out of Nantucket

I have been looking to make a batch of this myself. Did either of you come up with a promising recipe?

Ring of sediment forming in bottles

I bottled my apricot pale ale about a week ago and it appears that a ring of sediment, almost like a krausen ring, has formed in the neck of each bottle. At first I thought it was little remnants of apricot that got into bottles but it doesn't appear to be that. What is going on here? Is the...

6 hours into fermentation with strange results

I pitched my yeast 6 hours ago and so far no activity. The bottom is much darker than the top and there is also a ring of solid matter floating around the bottom as well. this is my third ever batch and I have yet to ever experience results like this.

How long should I wait to see evidence of fermentation?

I've heard that when fermentation is going strong it's very cool to watch so for that reason I am interested in witnessing it. It's definitely going now with about a centimeter of krausen and and a bubble every 2 seconds or so. The recipe said that it would ferment violently so I figured it...

How long should I wait to see evidence of fermentation?

I don't know the exact temperature because I do not have a thermometer yet but the pot was cool to the touch and there was no steam coming off the top.

How long should I wait to see evidence of fermentation?

I made a batch of Hefeweizen about 4 hours ago and have yet to see any evidence of fermentation. The recipe said that fermentation would be vigorous and would require a blowoff tube so I figured I should be seeing some action by now? A couple things to factor in that may have an affect are that...

My liquid yeast fizzed out when I opened it. Will the lost yeast matter?

I was making a starter and shook the yeast, WLP300, to suspend the settled yeast on the bottom. When I unscrewed the top the yeast overflowed from the tube. I managed to get most of it in my carboy but some was definitely lost. Will the lost yeast affect my fermentation? Should I let the starter...

How high should 5 gallons be in a 6.5 gallon carboy?

I have a 6.5 gallon glass True Brew carboy but forgot to mark where 5 gallons should be before I poured the wort in. Does anybody with experience with this specific carboy know how many inches high the 5 gallon mark should be?

Will an overboil affect my recipe?

After pouring the DME in the pot over boiled and i lost about a cup or two of foamy liquid. Will this affect the outcome in any way? I would imagine that less fermentable could dull the flavor or cause the beer to have a lower ABV?

It seems like my fermentation has stopped too early

oops yeah i meant 1.028. There's nothing going in the airlock at all. How hard of shake are we talking here? I was under the impression you don't want it to move too much because it lets too much oxygen in. I had heard that tea might make it bitter too but when I tried it earlier I thought it...

It seems like my fermentation has stopped too early

I attempted my first ever batch last Saturday (1/7/11), a milk stout made from a combination of extracts and grains. I used chai tea instead of plain water too, to give it flavor. The first night and following morning there was about a 1 - 2 inch layer of krausen and it was bubbling about 1-2...

    Chai Tea Beer

I am new to brewing and for my first batch I would like to try making a chai tea beer. I have searched around and have been unable to find a recipe that is quite right for what I have in mind however. As I am new to brewing I need a recipe that not only uses extracts but also only requires a...
