    Sucking on hop cones

So I've been growing hop bines for two years now and I just love picking a fresh hop and sucking on it for about a half hour. Anyone else try it? Intensely bitter but you notice the flavor differences in each variety.

So I have my keezer set at 38 degrees using a calibrated stc-1000 but my beer is pouring at 45 degrees. Any advice beyond turn the keezer to a lower temp?

    New keezer

Keezer all but finished. Still missing a drip tray and tap labels. I love this thing though. I've been brewing since 2009 and this is easily one of the best upgrades I've made. I painted the freezer a nice mint green using homemade chalk paint (mix paint with water and plaster). The collar and...

    3400 watts enough?

Hi there. Just wondering if 3400 watts is enough energy to boil 11-12 gals wort for a final batch size of 10 gallons. My electric kettle is built and does well with five gallon batches. I could do a boil test with the ten gallon volume but thought I'd ask in case someone has already tried...

    Oops moments

I'm sure we have all had them and I had one today. Let me paint the picture: I'm all set up to brew a maibock, 13 pounds base grain half pound carared. I mash in, and start thinking, why did I use briess 2-row? This is a maibock, why didn't I grab my German Pilsner. I consult my recipe and sure...

    Problem with boil

So I just installed two 1700 watt elements in my brew kettle (on two separate 120v circuits). I just did a boil off test today and they didn't provide a very good rolling boil for six gallons of water. The water was only rolling boil directly over the elements. I also noticed that the boil was...

    How would you like...

...to receive two cases of brew (Groom's Brew Maibock, Bride Ale Witbier) from you co-conspirator in homebrewing for your wedding? Below is a pilot bottle for display purposes of my Vienna lager.

    1 pid, 2 ssr, 110v?

Hi all, I'm getting ready to start ordering the supplies to build a very basic e-bib 110v system. I would like to keep things relatively simple but still have everything run through one control box. I have seen on 110v systems where two elements are used, one through the pid and the other one...

    Snowshoe WV beer

Hey all, I'm headed up to Snowshoe WV for a few days shortly and I was wondering what breweries/beers I should try while up there. I live in Norfolk, VA so it isn't exactly far away but I don't want to miss out on anything unique. Cheers, Vellum

    Homebrewer's Lament

Well it has been a long week for me. I had knee surgery on Monday and doctor says I can't have any alcohol while on the pain meds, which is too bad because my Mac and jacks clone as well as a honey wheat are ready to drink. So this is my lament for myself an others who have been patient, waiting...

    Loose Cannon Thoughts

Hi, I am formulating a recipe for Loose Cannon, a beer brewed by Heavy Seas. I looked at their website and found this: Our flagship beer, Loose Cannon wins people over at first smell. The carefully cultivated interplay of Simcoe, Palisade, and Centennial creates a most fragrant IPA—its...
