SW OH - Free Hop Plants

I am digging up my hop plants of 2-4 years this weekend. If anyone in the area of Cincinnati are interested in them, send me a message for more information. I have 2 of each of the following plants: Cascade, Chinook, Mt. Hood, Kent Goldings, and Centennial.

    DIY Interwoven "Rib-Cage" Immersion Chiller

I used a growler to wrap my coils around for a 50ft one I built. It works great in a keggle, fits easily. You can always adjust the total diameter of the chiller by pushing each "rib" closer to the other one.

NHC 2009 East Region scoresheets delivered.

Yeah, I was a steward at a local competition and I saw this happen on occasion. I mean the practice of adjusting the scores when they are far apart. The judge that scored it high made comments that he liked it even though the other judges did not. I know it was somewhat flawed (definately...

NHC 2009 East Region scoresheets delivered.

I received mine back yesterday as well. I was under the impression if you got 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in a category and received a score of 30 or over, you qualify to advance to the 2nd round. I think I received two 1sts (schwarzbier , and smoked beer (22B)) from how I read the sheets, and 2 second...

    Pro Brewer from Ohio

I just recently had BORIS for the first time, and really enjoyed it. In Cincinnati, their beers are available at Jungle Jim's. Congrats on the award. I'll be picking up some of your other ones on my next trip there. Anyone have any recommendations?

What does it cost you to refill your CO2?

Sparkling Carbonics in Cincinnati just refilled my 20# CO2 tank for $14 + tax. I believe it costs about $7 for a 5# tank.

Drying hops with a box fan

I did Alton Brown's method with a small batch of Cascade hops and it took about a day to dry them. I would not think it would hurt to go a longer than a day, to ensure that they are dry.

$161 5 cu. ft. chest freezer

If you have access to Sam's Club, this is the one I purchased (just to use as a freezer). It is a quite a bit larger (2.0 cubic feet more ) for only a few dollars more than the Haier. Freezer Honestly, though, I would look for one on craigslist first, like other people have said.

Kegging mistake I won't make again (cheer me up)

Yes, it would be the normal 1oz of star-san to 5 gallons water. Definately mixed with water.

    Keggle Cutting Video

Just did this with a newly acquired $10 angle grinder. My brother fashioned a jig similar to the one in your video, and we too used a hole saw. I wish I would of paid closer attention to the video before I attempted to cut it. We used a large 1/4" grinding wheel which ended up taking 30...
