    $#@%ing POS A$$ Property Management

My future roommate, whos previous landlords were apparently not able to be contacted, so now he has to bring in someone who has to fill out an application to co-sign for him, its going to be another week before we can move in because they have such absurd standards. They are a college rental...

    Wow, yeast are strong...

So I have been playing with yeasts, cooling them, making starters etc. I recently made a starter from a vial of trub from my Oatmeal Stout. I just made a 1L starter, moved it to a larger container, added another 1L of wort. It was just experimental fun learning. It has been sitting in maybe .5L...

    Critique my Recipe: ESB

This is my second recipe I have made, my fourth AG batch, the previous three as my sig says were Oatmeal Stouts. I made this with Beer Smith, I still don't know a whole lot about the ingredients, so I just threw it together at my LHBS... 7lb Maris Otter Pale Malt 1lb Biscuit Malt 1lb...

    Leaking Chiller

I made a wort chiller from 50ft of copper tubing 3/8"OD and have the input/output (3/8"ID) hoses hose clamped onto the copper tubing. I have a horribly obnoxious leak on the inlet. How can I get this to stop? I don't even think I can get the stupid clamp tighter without breaking it! Is there...

    Doll House Brewery UPDATE!

Hello all, I am posting this update to tell all about my All Grain experiences so far. I have brewed 3 batches, all ag oatmeal stouts. My first, about 3 weeks ago, is gone. It was sub-par (for my tastes) until it was aged a little (I cant age long, ive only got 1 keg). It was very sweet, too...

    Carbing through the dip tube?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone here attempted to carb a beer through the dip tube, rather than fill the head space first? I would think it would allow more direct contact with the beer, making it carb faster. Without a airstone would this really work, or would the size of the bubbles be too...

    Infection, Mold?!

Hello all, I just recently brewed my third AG batch, I reused my sanitizing solution, for the first time ever. I use strictly Star San mixed a little over. It was perhaps a week old, sitting in my "Ale Pail" that I use to store it while brewing. I know Star San is supposed to last, so I thought...

Help with my yeast starter, i dont think its going to start anything...

I made my first yeast starter today, a bit frantically with a friend. I am a perfecting type, I guess, where as he is not. It went ok, nothing bad happened, racked my beer and made the starter. My question is, I used 2/3cup (a little less) Gold DME and 500ml water before boil, I have ~375mL wort...

First All Grain in the carboy!

Today was a wonderful day, I had an easy morning of parking cars (and by parking i mean waving them in) and talking to a friend, for money of course. Followed by a stop at the lhbs. I picked up 9lbs pale malt, 1lb chocolate, 1lb roasted barley, 1lb flaked oats, 2oz Chinook and White Labs Irish...

First All Grain brew tomorrow, need some help!

Its been a while since I have been around here, during busy bike season I cant get much brewing time in. Anyways, I finally finished my mashtun and built up a recirculating immersion wort chiller. I am so excited to use my new toys! I still have a few necessities, such as a pot, as that is very...

    10 gallon Rubbermaid Cooler

Hi everyone, today I picked up a 10 gallon Rubbermaid cooler from Home Depot, to be converted to a MLT. I was just curious about what bottoms people are using, or like the most, and how much grain you guys have been able to fit in them. I plan on doing 5gal batches, it is going to be a simple...

    First Racking/Dry Hopping

Woooo, today I racked my beer into a secondary for the first time! It is an IIPA (kind of) and man was it stressful... I was using the carboy cap method, but I learned how to effectively do so, which is good. All went decently, the hops are a little less in the beer than I would like, but all...

Looking for a Burner and Pot, good deal?

I am using my tax money to upgrade a little. I am planning on building a 12gal mlt with a Igloo Ice Cube 48qt cooler. I only have a 4 gallon pot right now, and wouldnt have enough money for a nice pot yet, but I would like a stove for those big boils. I found this on amazon...

Rectangles or Circles; Building a Mash Tun

Hello All, I am new to brewing (only on my 6th right now) but have already become addicted. I am getting my tax return soon and want to build a MLT. I have read several articles on how to make them, and looked at several kits. I would like to know if there are any major...

    Dry Hopping my IPA

Hello All, I just brewed up my first IPA, I am planning on racking it into a secondary on an ounce of hops Thursday. I would like some advice on keeping the dry hop sack sanitary. Are there any necessary precautions I should take? Should I sanitize the muslin sack, and if so, how? Thanks all...

    Malt Extract longevity?

I am pretty new (brewing my 5th right now) and am looking at lowering costs. How long will extract stay good? Is it best if used immidiately or can I store it for a period of time. I am looking at picking up a large quantity to use over an expanse of time. I can get 60 lbs for between 100 and...
