    Have some leftover hops... suggestions?

I have 1/2 ounce each of Kent Goldings and Mt. Hood and some dry yeast, I was thinking about picking up some wheat LME and making this: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f70/simple-hefeweizen-186432/ This would be the first recipe I haven't used a kit for, looks like a quick and simple way to...

Just the latest victim of the old 1.02 extract stuckage...

I know stuckage isn't a word. :drunk: Left in the basement for 3 weeks, which admittedly got too cold as time went on. Started at 64 degrees but got really cold here and got down to 59-60. I brought it upstairs where it's 72 degrees but should I even bother waiting for it to drop further or...

Starter question: less than 24 hours away from brewing...

I'm brewing a brown ale tomorrow morning, if I make a starter when I get home from work that gives it only about 16 hours instead of 24... should I even bother with a starter if I don't have a full 24 hours to devote to it? I'm assuming it wouldn't hurt anything, just wouldn't give the yeast...

My basement is aound 62 degrees right now... too cool for fermenting?

If so I'll need to come up with plan B quickly, my kit arrives today and I really don't have any other place to do it. The rest of the house stays around 72 degrees.

Screwed up my first batch but I will NOT be discouraged...

My first brewing experience was a batch of cider, which I ended up using british ale yeast for and it came out tasting a bit yeasty/beery for cider. Still drinkable. My first beer brewing experience was my last batch, American Pale Ale from Brewer's Best. It came out with a bitter, grainy dry...

Best practices for washing bottles... how do you do it?

I've been washing them in the dishwasher without soap and with heated dry. My buddy said that should get hot enough to sanitize them if I bottle right after they come out. Guess it's too early to tell if that's true or not, I've only bottled twice but I haven't detected problems yet. I may...

    Learn from my n00biness!

Bottled my first batch of beer yesterday, and American Pale Ale from BB. Here are the mistakes I made: I had to move the fermenting bucket across my basement to facilitate bottling, which stirred up some of the trub/sediment which transferred to my bottling bucket and into some of the...

    Guidelines for aging beer...

I'm a noob at this, my second batch is an American Pale Ale that has been in the primary for a little over a week now. Took a gravity measurement and it's down to where it should be. The instructions just say to bottle after fermentation has stopped unless you rack to secondary, then it's a...

Brewing my first batch tomorrow, last minute advice and encouragement?

It's an American Pale Ale kit I bought at the local HBS. I think I have everything I need. Any last minute tips, advice or words of encouragement to get me started? I made cider but it came out tasting more like apple wine since I decided not to carbonate it. Now I'm ready for BEER! :rockin:

Kit or individual ingredients for first homebrew attempt?

I've seen a few people on here mention that the quality of ingredients in some kits are suspect. I don't really want to make a mediocre beer on my first attempt and I already have all the equipment I'll need. Should I get a kit or just pick up the ingredients for a simple extract recipe...

Noob here, brewing my first batch (cider)...

Hello all, seems like a good community to shoot the shat about beer, drinking, cleaning up messes and sweet sweet inebriation. I picked up some equipment Saturday and yesterday started my first batch. I decided on cider both since fall is coming and I wanted to try something easy for my first...
