    Mini Refrigerator broken

Hi, has anyone heard of or does anyone think a Johnson Controller thermostat set at a 1 degree differential could break a mini fridge? I am trying to understand why my fridge is broken quite early, and I suspect it might have to do with my 1 degree differential turning the fridge on and off...

    Lagering Refrigerator broke

Hi, While lagering a Munich Helles (about 2 weeks in), I noticed the temperature with the Johnson Controller had risen from 45 to 66! Further investigations showed that the controller was ok, but the mini refrigerator had bombed on me. I suspect it was like this for about 2 days, and I...

yeast starter too strong - what to do?

Hi, I attempted my first yeast starter last night and followed John Palmer's details to the word...with perhaps a bit of common sense missing: I started with 1/2 cup of DME and 2 cups of water which I boiled, but when I finshed, I had only one cup of starter since the rest boiled away. I...

Cooling wort with soda cans, not bottles?

Hi all, I'm a new brewer from Chapel Hill, NC. I saw some threads about using plastic bottles to chill wort and there was some concern about the plastic melting.....but what about freezing a six pack of coca cola cans, sanitizing them and dropping them into the working so they work like 6 giant...
