First competition, the results are in!

My local brew club had a competition a couple of weeks ago and I thought I'd throw a couple beers in the mix to get some feedback. I turned in a DIPA and a Belgian Wit. There were three judges and scores were averaged to get the final score to see how the beers would be placed in the top...

    Which kind of mug?

I know that there are proper beer glasses for specific types of beers, but I'm looking for a couple of "Brewers Mugs." Sort of special Mugs for me and my brewing partner since, well... we brewed the beer. Everyone else can drink out of random pint glasses :) Three automatically come to mind...

Enjoyed our first homebrew on Saturday.

And it was much better than we anticipated. It was a bit sweet for a Hefe, but its still sitting at room temp in the bottles so it ought to get a bit better with time. Head retention wasn't fantastic either, but maybe time will fix that as well. The LHBS owner said we're doing something...

    Got a fridge!

My brew buddy and I bought a fridge from my girlfriends' sister. It's essentially brand new, which is awesome, and we scored it for $75. Nice. Looks like it'll only fit one carboy, though, but no biggie. We may try and take the door panel off to see if that will make any difference. Either way...

    Another "is this normal?" thread.

Pitched WLP566 a week prior to when this picture was taken. It's been at room temperature all that time. This is my second batch, the first being a Hefe (WLP300) and that didn't have anything on top of it like this. Just checking to see if it's normal and, if it's not, if it's going to make...

Full size fridge fermenter - Will the door warp?

A full sized (well, apartment sized) fridge fell in to my lap for dirt cheap. My brew buddy and I are going to go today and pick it up. I've just got a quick question that I can't seem to find a definitive answer on: is it necessary to replace the inside door shelving with a piece of wood if it...

Recipe calls for secondary - do we need to for a Saison?

Brewed a Saison last Sunday (WLP566) and the recipe (from the LHBS) calls for moving it to secondary after a week. I've read on here and other places that it isn't really necessary for most beers, so I'm thinking I'm not going to move it. I was just wondering if there was a reason I should...

    Saison goof.

This past weekend my friend and I brewed our second batch, a Saison. Everything went well enough except that we added the last 1oz of Simco hops at 10 min remaining in the boil rather than flame out. I'm not too worried about it, but I'd just like an idea of what to expect. As I understand...

Now accepting ideas for my my second brew.

All I can think about is brewing more beer. My friend and I brewed our first batch two weeks ago this Sunday (Hefe, WLP 300, room temp, :ban: ). Initially we were going to wait until this beer was ready to drink before starting our second. We had the idea of sipping our first home brew while...

    First batch!

Yesterday afternoon a friend and I began our first batch. The guy at the shop suggested three or four beers he recommended for first timers, and we chose the Hefe. This morning there doesn't seem to be much (any) action (pitched yeast around 11pm), but we've been told not to panic until 24...

    Hello!

I've been interested in home brewing for a while now, but never actually started. This weekend a couple of friends and I are going to head to the local brew shop, pick up some equipment, and hopefully get started! There are three of us. Started off as just two, but then another friend...
