    Beer Barrel Polecats

I'm a huge Stooges fan and this one is one of my favorites. Hopefully a few fellow brewers get a kick out of it: Note that this episode is post stroke for Curly, you can tell by his slow and slurred speech.

    Stuck fermentation

I scrolled through the "stuck fermentation" threads and didn't see something that could explain this. Brewed two batches on Memorial day. One ale, one porter. Used washed yeast from mason jars for both of them - same strain from the same batch. One pint of washed yeast per 5 gallon batch...

    Song link game

Maybe this was posted here before, I dunno - there's like a bazillion threads here. Here's the game. I'll post a song title (and band), the next poster uses a word in the song title (not the band) in another song title. ... and so on and so forth. For example, if I post Misty Mountain...

    My automatic grain grinder

There's a lot to be said about child labor:

    Effeciency

I'm wondering if I could have miscalculated here, but is my efficiency getting better? Brewed two batches today. First a pale ale. 9lbs 2-row 1lb Caramel #20 Drew off a 6 gallon batch and read a sample at 130 degrees @ 1.030 Added 1.013 for the temperature and divided that sum by...

    Does CO2 go bad?

I'm figuring no, but why not ask the experts. Dug my old C02 tanks out to get refilled, one 10lb that was empty and one 5lb that, to my surprise still had C02 in it. Probably in there for 15+ years. No problem using it, right?

    On bottles

Way back when I first started brewing, I used to buy beer in these green bottles that were thicker than standard bottles. Had an "A" on the bottom and they were clearly thicker, not returnables though. The bottling I will do now will be in blue flip-top, however I want to get a batch of root...

    Early kegging

I have a batch that is in secondary, on it's third week now in total. Still slowly burping away. It doesn't look quite done yet (I'm totally flying blind here) I do not have a good OG and have no idea how much is left. I originally wanted to bottle it but it's too soon I think and I'm not...

    Chocolate orange porter

I'm brewing a standard pale ale on Sunday (apocalypse not withstanding), but next weekend I might give a shot at a chocolate orange porter. Got the idea from a local supply store owner. Here's my problem - I have no recipe or reference point on what to use, so I'm looking to the smart...

    Why I started brewing again

I stated in my intro post, I'm veteran brewer that's been out of the craft for 15 or 20 years. Why I got back into it? I really enjoyed it back then but got away from it when kids came along. Not sure why though, I probably should have kept up with it. Kids are older now but I have a 7yr...

    Iodine

I've always used the iodine test for starch but I'm not sure you can buy regular tincture of iodine. The stuff they have at the local pharmacy is some iodine solution (it's clear and smells like alcohol). Can you still get iodine anywhere? The pharmacist where I work told me that it's...

New to the forum - question

Hey - newbie to the forum here. Started brewing maybe 20 years ago and got away from it when kids came along. Work, school, soccer practice. Getting back into home brewing and I'm pleasantly surprised at how far the hobby has grown. I like to think I was one of the trailblazers...
