Asl-51 timer/ counter with flowmeter question

I have been accumulating parts for my ongoing project of semi- automating my brewstand. So far the pids and wiring is not an issue, but rather a hair-brained idea. BbI would like to have an easy water fill for my HLT; as in program a counter to fill ten gallons via a solenoid valve and...

Hop back/hop filter idea. Your thoughts?

I've recently started upgrading the brewery, including a large plate chiller. I usually always use whole cone hops, but occasionally need to use pellets. My current kettle hop-stopper has large 1/4 inch holes, and stops most of it, but After seeing some horror stories of clogs, I thought of an...

Backsweetened my punkin ale, but now its too sweet. help!

Made a pumpkin ale and everything in perfect except it finished at 1.004. Way too dry! I decided to back sweeten with splenda so it didn't ferment out. My Main problem is that it took two days for the sweetness to fully come through, and the sweetener was added with several steps within 24...

    My ghetto brewstand build

So after seeing all the awesome brewstand on the forums, I decided to build a low budget stand for myself. It starts with a dual fry cart from academy outdoors for my two burners. I then made an erector set style stand for my mash tun. The mash tun stand bolts to the frame and is actually quite...

    SN Kellerweis fermentation temps?

I am going to brew a clone of the Sierra Nevada kellerweis tomorrow using yeast I harvested from a six pack. I think I may have the grain bill nailed, but am unsure of the fermentation temperature. I was thinking about 66-68 degrees. Anyone have any thoughts?

1st Beersmith made IIPA recipe. What do you think?

OK, I usually brew on the fly, and make recipes in my head. I am horrible about writing anything down, and have few notes. Since I have never made the same brew twice, consistency was non-existent. I decided to change all that. I purchased Beersmith, and have cranked out a few basic recipes...

    just wanted to say...

... Thanks to all the seasoned brewers on this forum with all the knowledge and help given. Thank you to all of our brewery supply stores(brick and mortar, and online) , and thank you to the friends I have made over a boiling kettle. Tonight I was reminded how awesome the homebrewing community...

    Imported Finnish yeast for Sahti

My grandmother just came to visit from Finland, and I had her bring me some real Finnish baking yeast. I have a baby food sized jar of thick paste, and am letting half of it go to several fellow brewers. In the spirit of the holidays I am willing to part with some to the first few people that...

So I kinda scored off Ebay....

So I lucked out on an auction. I won this 26 gal/100 liter fermenter for only $15.00. Yeah, thats right $15.00. There is a couple issues with it however. It did not come with a lid, but I Think that that may be easy to have made with some plexiglass. I dont know how to make it...

Is fiber reinforced polypropylene food safe for a fermentor?

I am going to be building a Inductor tank fermentor soon, and wanted to use full size quick disconnects. I work at Napa Autoparts, and can get "gator lock" cam lock fittings for dirt cheap. My only issue is that I cannot find conclusive info if the fiber reinforced polypropylene is food safe at...

    harvesting 3787 peanut butter?

I have a batch of Patersbier in my primary now, and wanted to harvest the 3787 yeast from it. Problem is that the krausen never really foamed up, but has maintained a peanut-butter like consistancy since fermentation started. I assume fermentation is close to ending (from 1.052 to 1.010 now)...

Looking for a good luau beer

I have an annual family luau in august, and was asked to make a suitable beer to serve. There will be a roast pig, and many other luau themed dishes. I'm torn on making a fruit beer, or something that appeal to everyone. I have searched quite a bit, but no good results. Any good...
