    Dry tea hop

So I brewed a smoked brown ale for a competition as a experiment and it turned out great. My plan was to rebrew it adding some degree of woodsyness or complexity using spruce or ? It turns put I'm out of time and I'll have to use the finished one I have. I need to impart some aroma and possibly...

    Cold crashed too early

Fermented a Smoked brown ale for three weeks at 68 degrees. Before sampling it I got cocky and crashed it overnight at 40 degrees. Sampled today before kegging and it's green apple slightly. I'm hoping it's just a green beer. I'm trying to warm it back up. Should I use some yeast nutrient or...

So I made a munich helles and used Cali lager yeast. Week and a half at 60 degrees. Diacetyl rest at 70 for a couple days. Now it's been kegged at 40 for almost two weeks. The problem is the first glass is pure butter and real hazy. It tastes like popcorn. Every glass after is much better but...

    Wyeast california lager

I did a five gallon batch of German helles and used the california lager yeast. My question is. Is this a slow starter like a regular lager yeast. It's been 3 days at 58-62 and it has just barely started to krausen. Also after I pitched at about 65 I brought the temp down way to far. Say 48-50...

    Space heater fermenting

So I had an idea to use a small space heater in a chest freezer for fermenting. The heater has a built in ambient temperature sensor so I figure it will work great but have never seen it done. I saw a setup this weekend that was a wood enclosure that used an ac unit and a space heater and he...

    Too much foam

I put a pale ale on 20lbs for two days. Took a sample and all I get is foam at high pressure. I vented the keg and adjusted to 10 lbs. It's in a keezer at 45 degrees with the co2 tank and lines. It's pushing through 6 ft of 5/16 and a Picnic tap. Have changed to 8 ft with little or no...

I brewed a english IPA 12 days ago. It started at about 1.065. Checked it last night and its at about 1.035. It has fermented between 68-74. my sample was very cloudy and full of setiment, so I dont know how reliable my reading is. I used 1 pack of 1098. I usually let my beers go a moth in the...

    Trying a Partial Mash

Im pretty sure I got the process figured out but Im unsure of one item. Im assuming the steeping grains need to be crushed or milled. Do they come that way, will the HBS do it or can You do it yourself without a mill? Is there a difference between millimg and crushing? Thanks for the info.
