    Saflager S-23 Report

When I first started lagering I was searching for my "House Strain" Much in like how I did for my ales. Of course for my ales I stick to 3 for my "safe bets". My favorite Safale 05, followed by 04, and then nottingham. Unless I'm looking for something special I generally stick to these because...

    Blow off vs Airlock

I've tried to search for my question, but haven't found the answer. I've been using airlocks for a long time with zero problems. So my question isn't about which one works better, but does one change the taste / clarity. I did my first batch while using a blow off tube and it was working...

    Is 70% really that bad?

I've been working with my current set up to get the best efficiency. My best has been 76% and my worst has been 68%. My typical mash step includes single infusion with 2 seperate batch sparges (due to the fact that I have a 5gallon mast tun). Any recommandations to boost this a little or...

    Safale Products (WB-06 - S-33)

Ok I've read a few threads on WB-06, but noticed that most of them are from 2007-2009. I have come to love Safale dry yeasts. I use US-05 on almost every "safe" brew that I do. I also like to change it up a little bit and use the 04. But I wanted to experiment more with the Safale line up...

    Burner BTUs?

Ok I've been using an electric stove. It has a large burner and it can bring my 6+ gallons to a boil in about 45 min. But I'd rather just get a burner for outdoors. I've seen these burners range from 10,000 to 180,000 BTUs. Any suggestions. Would 50,000 be ok for a 6.5 gallon boil?

    Adjusting my Milk Stout

I'm working on a milk stout after the first taste (moving it to a secondary to sit for a few more weeks) I noticed that it has a distinct coffee taste. I didn't use much Roasted barley and chocolate.. They were each .75lbs, in a 11lb total grain batch. Is there anything I can do with the...

    Stout Bottling / Nitrogen

I just got done brewing a milk stout... Much in like a Left handed Milk Stout, but I modified the recipe. I want the beer to be thick and creamy, but I'm concerned about the co2/nitrogen concentration. I know that guinness uses nitrogen on tap, and also uses a nitrogen ball in their bottles...

A little help from one beginner to another

Ok so I have just got into the process of beer brewing. I'm currently on my second batch. I am in no means in the position to offer advise or even my opinion on one method compared to another. But, what I can do is say that I have spent a MASSIVE amount of time in the forums reading on topics...

    First Time Brewer - Kolsch

Ok so I'm attempting my first batch. I did my best to read up on the do's and dont's. I purchased a Deluxe brewing kit. Plastic Primary and a Glass secondary. I also bought an 8 gallon kettle for the brew, because I hear full brews simply taste better. My first attempt at a brew I tried a...
