    Whole Cone Hops

For a standard IPA, how many ounces or pounds are required for a 5 gal batch of moderately hopped beer? Thanks!

    Flakes in secondary

Any suggestions? As I was getting ready to bottle today, I opened my secondary fermenter and I was startled to find flakes floating in the beer. When I dry-hopped 2 weeks ago, I used a new nylon bag with Citra hops. At that time the beer looked fine. I had always used muslin bags for dry-hoping...

    Mr. Malty calculation???

OK. I hate to be driving the knowledgeable forum nuts, but, I started a thread the other day regarding yeast starters. I am more confused than when I started. I am going to be making a Tripel which cost a fair amount of $. Therefore, I want to get this right. This will be my 3rd attempt at...

With an impulsive decision, when at my local HBS the other day, I bought a starter kit. I did this because I will be brewing a very big Tripel in a couple of weeks. Here are a couple questions: 1 - Other than increasing my yeast supply for my big beer, is making a starter a worthwhile process...

All, I have one batch under my belt with good success. I dry hopped this batch using a suggestion from a forum member. I placed the hops in a grain bag and weighed it down with 5 sanitized marbles. Worked great! (The bag actualy floated to the top when I bottled a week later) QUESTION: I...

    Carboy Dangers (and potential death)

Yesterday I asked in the beginners forum, what was better, a Carboy or a Bucket? It only took a couple of responses to remind me of the dangers of carboys. I will be sticking with buckets. Back in 1980, my brother, who was back from the military and starting his life a civilian, was killed by a...

    Carboys vs. Plastic

I am considering purchsing a Carboy for Primary and secondary fermentation. So far, I like using buckets for the ease of cleaning. After my first batch, I realized that a Carboy may be difficult to clean. Am I right?????

I am getting ready to brew a 5 gallon batch of Chinook IPA (extract) on Sunday. Dry Hop Mistake???

In my haste last night, I dry-hopped my 18 day-old fermenting American Pale Ale with 1 oz. of Willamette pellets. A couple of hours later, I read the Papazian book that suggests dry-hopping with 1/4 oz of hops. Do I need to "fish out" my weighted down hopping bag? I love hops, but, is this over...
