    Maybe a strange question

As anyone ever done a Brett addition in secondary of an American IPA? How would I go about trying to make a sour IPA? Could I add a Brett yeast to an AIPA when I rack it to secondary? Would this be a disaster?

So I seem to get really good efficiency.

So for 2 batches now I've overshot my target OG by quite a bit. I use a 10 gal Coleman for a MLT with a bazooka screen. First recipe was shooting for an American IPA, 8 gallon batch (splitting into two Carboys, gonna do two separate dry hop additions. Grains & Adjuncts Amount Percentage...

My first brewday in 18 months. All grain, almost all success!

Well, after taking an involuntary leave of absence from brewing (having a first born son... WORTH IT) this past Saturday, I had my first brew day. First yay me moment: putting together a functioning keggle! Second yay me moment: using a piece of PVC to mark the volume of liquid in said keggle...

    Refrigerated Hop Pellets

Ive been away from brewing for a year and I'm planning my first brew day next week. Just a random question: How long are pellet hops in vacuum sealed 1oz retail packages viable to use in a recipe. And the same question for grains. Parsing my n00bishness I couldn't find anything with a search.

First Starter for Forst Batch, 2012

So i haven't brewed in like 6 months, and I thought that I had lost the obsession.... Turns out ... NOT AT ALL. Just took me prioritizing some of my small amount of free time. I just put the starter in the flask for my first batch of the year.. A single hop APA with citra hops... So what I'm...

    First starter one day in

I made my first starter yesterday and everything went ok, but today when I went to swirl my flask, I noticed what looked like wax pieces spinning around. My first thought is that it is some kind of trub that fell out of suspension. I smelled it through my foam stopper and it smells like...

Second AG batch. Honey Browm Ale

Ok. After learning from my mistakes on my first batch, I'm currently heading into the boil of a Honey Brown Ale. 8lbs 2 row. .25 lb chocolate .25 lb Special B .25 lb biscuit .25 lb roasted malt 1 oz cluster 7.5%AA 60 min 1 lb honey 0 min Not too crazy right? Single infusion at 154* @ 1.25...

First AG Batch, missed SG target

Well, first AG batch is in the fermenter, and I was looking for a SG of 1.060 or thereabouts after the boil, and I got 1.040. So if it finishes out at about 1.013 like I hope, it will be about 3.5% ABV. So instead of a Robust Porter, I'll call it my (Not So) Robust Porter. Meh, sessionable at...

    False Bottom with bazooka?

Hey guys, I just put together my first MLT out of a rubbermaid. Im using a kettlevalve and a bazooka screen, and my question is pretty simple. Would there be any benefit of me putting a false bottom over the bazooka screen? I'm thinking that it'd be a peace of mind thing at the very least.

    Second batch begins today.

Well the title says it all, the beer is going to be a big Black IPA with simcoe and amarillo hops. I'm aiming for a OG of 1.090 range, 1.020 FG hopefully. My first batch, an ignorantly hopped IPA has turned out wonderful, much to my surprise. When I was pouring it into the carboy primary, I...

    First bach in progress.

Well, I attended an informal "how to brew" class and tasting at my LHBS in Kent, OH. and after two agonizing weeks of staring at my brew equipment, I'm starting my first batch. It's mostly an extract batch with about 2 lbs of grain for steeping, which is the step I'm at now. Just wanted to drop...
