Whole Foods Sorghum Syrup vs Sorghum Liquid Extract

So I'm diving back into gluten free brewing after picking up a kegerator (my girlfriend in addition to her gluten allergy was diagnosed with a minor yeast allergy). I can cold crash now and get most of the yeast out. Anyways, I've been by a whole foods investigating gluten free grains and...

DFH Tweason Ale and Buckwheat Honey

So Dogfish Head is supposed to release their gluten free beer to distribution sometime this month or next. As a non-GF beer drinker I am a huge fan (spending part of my life in Southern DE certainly helped) of DFH and think it is a great move for them. My girlfriend who does have a gluten...

Thoughts on using Old Bay seasoning

So I've been wanting to do a mini batch of Gose for sometime and in the family tradition of using Old Bay seasoning on near anything (we summer in Delaware where it's crab country) thought I might replace the salt. Not expecting much for responses here as it's a rare idea (already tried the...

    What should I brew today?

I am quite torn on either doing a steam marzen or an indian brown ale? I love both styles and I am being indecisive. Thoughts and/or recipe suggestions?

Best place for maltable gluten free grains

Specifically looking for millet and quinoa. I have gotten these from Whole Foods but remember someone mentioning that they couldn't get them to germinate. Also, I have gone to a local feed store and they only had millet on the vine/branch and it was a pain in the ass to get off.

Gluten Free Starter for Yeast Harvesting

Trying to come up with a fermentable source to harvest and grow some yeast from a DFH Squall IPA bottle. Was planning on doing several stages to build up some yeast for a GF 60 minute IPA recipe I have planned but not sure what to use. I don't want to buy 3 lb of sorghum syrup so I'm thinking...

"Threat Lemon Midnight" - GF Lemon Pepper Experimental Batch

I posted briefly about black rice yesterday in this batch and said I would bring the whole recipe so here goes. Came up with an idea to use "asian" types of ingredients for a GF batch and not as in a Sapporo/Asahi clone. I wanted to use Sorachi Ace hops and read about how they have a very...

    Black Rice

So I was going for an asian inspired GF ale and found some black rice. Wasn't sure if this would impart any color or not but figured I could try and get some OG points by mashing it with amylase enzyme. Holy crap! It turned everything purple. Deep purple. Even after adding sorghum and brown...

Dead Guy Ale Clone as a Steam Beer

Wondering peoples thoughts on using California Lager yeast for a Dead Guy Ale Clone. It's considered a Maibock ale and while this wouldn't truly be lagering it I thought this might change things up a little bit from all the recipes I've been seeing out there. Grain list is as follows: 10...

Favorite non-homebrew to buy to use to bottle

Basically what commercial beer do you buy to reuse bottles? I prefer pry-off over twist for recapping personally but interested to hear what others normally (or have) gone with. :tank:

"The way it Gose" 3 Gallon Partial Grain

Trying to continue with doing some different things. This time an attempt at a Gose style. Loosely based off of DFH Goser the Goserian except I'm using acidulated malt instead of lactic acid. 1 lb 8 oz Wheat DME 1 lb 8 oz Pilsen DME 12 oz Flaked Oats 4 oz Acidulated Malt .5 oz Vanguard...

    GF Pumpkin Ale (2.5 gal)

So it's a little late for the fall season but my GF gf loves pumpkin and obviously did not have a chance to get any pumpkin beers this past fall. I have never done a pumpkin ale before so thought I would do an attempt at a 2.5 gal batch for her and see how it came out to maybe make again later...

    Extract Yakima Glory Clone

This is my first attempt at my own pure recipe from scratch so appreciate comments and suggestions. From Victory's website and blogs we can tell that they use four Yakima hops. As far as malts they say imported german. Pilsner, Vienna, Munich, caramel and chocolate. 6 lb Briess Pilsen...
