Bayou Classic 62 Qt. Stainless Steel Stockpot for $100

I was looking around for a stock pot for 10 gallon batches and found this: http://www.divine-mercantile.com/Bayou-Classic-62-Qt-Stainless-Steel-Stockpot_p_9-776.html On another site is said it was 20 gauge stainless steel, which I think is slightly thinner than a keggle (16-18, I believe)...

    Hop Shoots as Food

http://www.allaboutbeer.com/food/hops.html Has anyone tried them? I have second year Cascade and Cenntenial plants that are already sending up a lot of shoots. I like the idea of using them in salads. I also saw that Hops Direct used to sell pickled hop shoots, but they don't have them...

    connecting 3 CO2 regulators

I'm thinking of building my own 3 regulator set-up so that I can run kegs at different pressures. This is what I think I need. 3 of these regulators: http://www.sciplus.com/search.cfm/scategory/OHM/term/regulator with these gauges: http://www.brewersdiscount.com/item5077.ctlg and these...

Second Year Hops and Crazy Weather

This is the time of the year where the weather is out of control in Southern Indiana. It was 70+ last weekend and the low at the end of this week is supposed to be around 15. With certain plants (I think roses are one of them), I've heard that once it warms up to the point that the plant is no...

Controllong how much people drink from a kegerator

Since I've built my kegerator, I've been trying to figure out the best way to control how much people drink at parties. With bottles I could control this, but with the kegs I don't know what to do. I don't want to be a dick about it, but at the same time I don't want people to waste me beer...

I'm short 1oz of Chinook. Where should I substitute?

I'm making the following recipe this weekend: 12 lbs - 2 Row Malt 1.25 lbs. - Crystal 120 1.25 oz - Chinook (60 min.) 1 oz - Chinook (30 min.) 1 oz - Chinook at FlameOut I only have 2 oz of Chinook, so I was trying to decide how I should change the recipe. The hops I have available...

    Winterizing Hop Plants?

It might be a little late but is there anything I need to do (or should have done) to winterize my hop plants? I couldn't find any mention of it in any of the hop growing articles I have seen.

Any tricks for removing stuck keg posts?

I recently purchaced some kegs and two of them have stuck posts. One has a stuck gas post and the other has a stuck liquid. I have tried soaking the posts in a warm oxyclean bath and I have tried using a little spray of liquid wrench. Neither method loosened them up. (The liquid wrench did...

    used dryhops

Would there be any reason I would consider: -reusing dryhops to dryhop another batch -using the dryhops as bittering hops in a different beer. I guess I'm just wondering how dryhopping actually changes the hops. For instance, with tea you can reuse the teabag, you just need to steep it...

A label describing how to pour a beer

A few months ago someone posted an image that explained how to pour a beer. It had illustrations and looked kinda like one of those flight safety booklets you see on planes. I really liked it and would like to use it (with the illustrator's permission, of course) at a party this weekend...

    Kegging Frustrations

To check for leaks I have done the following: -Pressurized the full keg and let it sit overnight. It still held pressure the next day -Pressurized the system from the CO2 tank the the gas in quick disconnect to 20PSI. I then shut the gas off. The regulator still read 20 PSI. -Sprayed...

    testing for leaks

I'm trying to isolate a leak in my system. I have a dual guage regulator with a Wye splitter and two check valves. Suppose I shut off both valves and turn the gas off. If the guages both go to 0 after an hour or so, does that mean the leak is somewhere between the gas tank and the check valves?

    regulator question

I recently got a dual guage regulator with shut off valve http://brewersdiscount.com/item102533.ctlg I'm trying to get the shutoff valve off to add a Wye splitter, but it wont budge. The shutoff valve looks like: http://brewersdiscount.com/item102532.ctlg I know regulators are sensitive...

four full kegs and only two gas in lines

I have room for four kegs in my fridge, but I can only hook two up to gas at any given time. Once all four kegs are pressurized, can I move the gas lines between kegs? It seems like a pain, but I'm not yet ready to go out an buy another regulator. I need to get an aeration system first (and...

    Pubs/Breweries in Boston

I'm going to be in Boston for a week and I was wondering if anyone knew of good beer related places to visit. Another thread mentioned the Harpoon Brewery and the Cambridge Brewing company. Anything else? I checked beermapping.com, but couldn't tell what was good and what wasn't.

    non-toxic vs food-grade

What is the difference? I assume non-toxic means it wont kill you, but it still might not be something you would want your food to touch (Play-Doh, for example). The way my mashing tun is designed I use 1/8" ID tubing. My LHBS does not carry any, so I have been using the stuff from my local...

    Old Kegs

I received four kegs from Northern Brewer over the weekend. Two of them were ok, but the other two seemed to be ancient. In fact, I'm pretty sure they are the first two kegs ever made. I'm new to kegging but there were a couple things about these two kegs that don't seem right. One of...

    Insects

I've been brewing outside and I've noticed the number of insects increasing as the weather improves. I occasionally brew at night and the last time I noticed a number of moths flying around the lights. I'm not all that concerned during the boil, but I'm afraid something might fly into the...

    A gift?

I went to a brew club meeting tonight and one of the extract brewers accidentally ordered an all grain kit. He didn't want the grain so he gave it to me. I'm thankful for the free grain, but I am a little concerned about what to do with it. He said it was a kit he ordered, so I have no idea...

Too much trub in bottling bucket

So I was trying to brew and bottle at the same time. I had a siphon going from the primary to the bottling bucket and I left it to go check on the kettle. When I came back, I saw that it had slipped down to the bottom and was sucking up a lot of yeast/trub. A lot of yeast/trub. I put a lid...
