OK so I have been keeping reef tanks for quite a while now. Brewing was a natural complement. I am figuring out that some of my equipment is dual purpose. E.g. had a refractometer for like six years and just realized on my last batch that I can use it for my beer! Lol. Anyway the salt that I...

    stout: thick krausen... no burping

So I've got a batch of nb sweet stout going. About four days ago. Good boil. Og = 1.054. The thing is that there seems to be no bubbling at airlock. You can see that the is pressure in the fermenter as the airlock levels are uneven. I broke rules to check gravity and there was THICK Krausen...

Ingredients are cinnamon, ginger, roasted barley. That's it in that order. Seeing how the apple flavor fades and any fruit flavors fade by...

    forum naiveté

So just sitting around and talking to my carboys today... one of whom has terrible farts which is only remedied by frequent and copious addition of yeast nutrient. And being a resouceful guy who would NEVER waste cider I thought... hmmm... if this cider doesn't come out (still ;-) haven't given...

first brew done and gone, 2nd started and want 3rd to do better

o.k. so I brewed 10 gallons of cider, no hydrometer at the time in plastic water carboys that I stole (borrowed ;)from work. fresh pressed pasteurized cider from a local mill, 2 lbs white sugar and one pound light brown split between them. Red star pasteur yeast. Ferment aromas were nice...

    silly question

Does the cider stay completely homogeneous? Or will alcohol separate resulting in stronger cider at the top of the carboy and weaker at the bottom.
