Starter in fridge covered with foil... how long?

I did a search for this, and it seems as if no one directly addressed this question... how long is too long to have a starter in the fridge that is covered with foil? I usually chill 18-24 hours, decant, warm, pitch. This time, real life won, and now it's been in the fridge for 72 hours...

No action! Yeah... I know. RDWHAHB.

No activity at 48 hours for my American Stout. Used Wyeast British Ale II 1335. Smacked it, didn't bulge, but I've had that happen before. No starter since it's a 2.5 gallon batch. I know I could get a sample to find out if anything is happening that I'm not seeing, but I'm using a 5 gallon...

    75, 71, 66, 56... efficiency freefall!!!

I know there are tons of efficiency threads out there, because I've looked at them all in the past 24 hours. I've adjusted my techniques based on the info given on this site and many others, but I'm still dropping over my last 4 batches! I just don't get it. I'm going to give a walk...

First Recipe! Might call it "Clueless Brown"

Here's my first attempt at my own brew. I used Promash to help me out, but I'd love some feedback from some of you brewmasters. I'm going for an American Brown Ale. Slight hop aroma and good bitterness balanced with sweet nutty malty flavor. Grains Pale 2-row 2lbs Pale LME...

Help with Jamil's Choco Hazelnut Porter--6 Gallons???

Ok, I've decided to brew Jamil's Chocolate Hazelnut Porter. Two problems I've come across, both probably because I'm a newbie... this will only be my 4th brew. I'm still brewing extract only.... luckily Jamil provides an extract recipe. Problem #1: His recipe calls for a 7 gallon boil...

    Chocolate Hazelnut Stout

So, I've been searching and reading all kinds of threads about chocolate hazelnut porters and stouts, but none of them are really hitting on what I want. The closest I found was Jamil's Chocolate Hazelnut Porter. I found his extract recipe, but it was for a 6 gallon batch. Obviously, I...

    American Pale Ale recommendation

Homebrewers, I'm looking for an APA recipe, either your own or a kit to recommend. Preferably in the style of Great Lakes Burning River. I know that AHS has a Burning River clone, I will probably go with that, but I figured I'd ask first. Thanks!

Anyone ever brewed the Burning River clone from AHS?

I'm lining up a Pale Ale for brewing sometime in October. I had Great Lakes Burning River Pale Ale over the summer and loved it... and I just saw that Austin Homebrew Supply has a clone. Anyone ever tried it? It'll be extract as it's only my 3rd. Not ready for the big leagues. Or...

    Starter for White Labs Necessary?

Hey all, I'm getting set to brew my second batch this weekend. It's Midwest Supplies' Irish Stout extract kit. All the reviews said to upgrade to the White Labs liquid yeast, so I did. My question is, since it is a lower gravity beer, do I still need to make a starter? From what I've...

    Rookie Star San Question

Ok, this is as basic a question as it gets, but I really haven't seen this explained anywhere yet. When using Star San to sanitize bottles, is it ok to use your bare hands to immerse the bottles in the solution? I will be using a five-gallon bucket and plan on dipping bottles in 2 at a time...
