Have a WSM on the way...

It should be here before the weekend and I would like to put it to use right away. What would be a good first project for someone who's never smoked anything before? Also, will I need anything other than charcoal and utensils to get started? :mug:

    Vanilla storage?

My future FIL works for a food import company and I got my hands on some good vanilla beans, which I plan to use for a CVCA. :D He freezes them for storage, tho it clearly says on the package to store them in a sealed container/bag in a cool, dark place. How do you guys/gals store them?

    Sure fire Belgian Tripel?

I'm going to be doing my first AG brew Friday and would like to do a Belgian Tripel. Is there a no-brainer, sure fire recipe out there? Thanks

    Used moldy LME, now what

So I was prepping to brew today. It's a LME kit from AHB I got in late September. I soaked the LME tub in hot water to loosen it up. I popped the lid, dumped it into my boil kettle, and I'm bringing up to a boil right now. Well, during clean up, I look in the tub and there appears to be mold...

    Riesling kit recommendation

The fiance and I would like to make wine for our wedding, both to server and as a take away gift for people. We're both a fan of Rieslings, so we've decided on that style. Can someone recommend a good kit? Thanks.

    Note to large(r) dog owners

Familiarize yourself with the signs of bloat. I almost lost my boy last night when he developed it. I was clueless as to what was going on and almost waited to contact the vet thinking dinner just didn't agree with him . You only have a couple hours from the onset to get them to a vet before...

    Crock pot recipes...

The SWMBO and I are trying to make dinners easier and figured we should start putting the crock pot to use. About the only thing I use it for is making chili ...and she doesn't like chili. :D So whatcha got for good crock pot recipies?

Connecting false bottom to ball valve

What's the best way to connect the elbow on (most) false bottoms to the valve in a mash tun? I'm piecing together a cooler ball valve kit from Bargain Fittings and I am unsure what to get for the internal fitting. I was just going to do a 1/2" barb, but I wasn't sure if the weight of the grain...

Which Barigain Fittings bulkhead kit for Rubbermaid cooler?

I'm making a mash tun out of a 10 gallon Rubbermaid cooler (round). Does anyone know for sure which of their bulkhead kits is the correct size for these coolers? http://www.bargainfittings.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=85

How to take multiple gravity readings?

How do you all take multiple gravity readings while the beer is fermenting (to make sure it's done)? Do you open up your fermenter each time? If so, what do you do to minimize the chance of an infection? How are you pulling the sample out?

    Pre-made RIMS?

Does anyone offer pre-made RIMS system? My SWMBO wants to buy me something brewing related. I want a RIMS setup, so I was thinking if someone made an out of the box setup, it would be something nice for her to get me. I'd be looking for just the basics like the pump in a box type thing ...not...

    Harvesting yeast from packet?

I've read a couple threads now on harvesting yeast from a fermenter. Is there a way to harvest (or I guess cultivate is a better word) your "fresh" yeast? Like taking your Wyeast packet for example, splitting it, giving the yeast some food to grow, and then just let it go dormant in the fridge?

    My first mistake?

So I brewed beer with a Mr. Beer a couple years ago and wanted to get back into it, but decided to buy some real equipment. I figured I will just do 5 gallon batches to start with, but wanted the option to make boils for a 10 gallon batch. So for my brewpot, I decided on an 60 quart aluminum...
