I think I got the wrong johnson controller

So I'm turning my mini fridge to a fermentation chamber. Cooling via the fridge, paint can lamp heater as a heat source. I got the Johnson Controls A28AA-37C 2-Stage Temperature Controller, and when I wired it, what happened is that the fridge and light turn on at the same time. There is a...

    What's your favorite BMC beer?

If you don't like BMC, then move along, this thread is not for you. For those that occasionally enjoy a can of bmc on a hot summer day, while slaving away in the yard, what's your favorite BMC beer and why? Miller lite, I think does taste a little better than the others, but goes down way...

Can someone reccomend a bottling wand?

I have tried 2. The first one I got - the spring sucked and leaked. I got a different one, that spring was perfect, but the wand was made out of this really stiff plastic which would break and crack easy when attaching to the spigot.

    Sierra Nevada Glassware

I picked up some of the hop tulip pint glasses and the wheat beer glasses. Very impressed. They're sturdy- strongest wheat beer glasses I have ever seen, and the wheat beer glasses will hold a full bomber. The etched hop on the bottom of the pint glass works like crazy. A stream of c02 flows...

    Cheers to Michelob

Went to pick up some light beer the other day (I'm getting fat, one shouldnt drink homebrewed IPA everyday) and I saw the Michelob display, not only do they list out the OG, but the hops used as well and the IBUs. This is more information than almost all craft breweries give out.

    AHS - Anniversary Kolsch

Anybody else get this kit? The hop schedule is just really bizzare. 1 oz Perle for 60 min - I'm ok with that, but the following doesnt make sense to me: 1/2 oz Vanguard 15 min 1/2 oz Kent Golding 15 min 1/2 oz Vanguard 5 min 1/2 oz Kent Golding 5 min That just seems like a ton of...

Famous (Favorite) Recipes every homebrewer should try at least once

What recipes should every homebrewer try at least once? The first ones that come to mind are Denny Conn's Wry Smile, McDole's Janet's Brown, and Mosher's Tire Biter bitter. What other recipes should every homebrewer try at least once? Or another way to ask this, is what are the...

    Harpoon IPA Clone

So SWMBO, pretty much will only drink Harpoon IPA. Ive been looking everywhere for a good clone, but there are so many inconsistencies with those recipes and from the information harpoon gives out. http://www.harpoonbrewery.com/index.cfm?pid=28507 Harpoon says the beer is 5.9%abv, 42 IBUs, 15...

Building Keezer - Keg Parts Question

I just want to make sure I order everything I need. I have the lowe's holiday chest freezer, 5.0 cubic ft. I plan on adding two kegs, and a 1x4 collar - made from pine. (is that wood ok?). I'm contemplating making a bigger collar so that more kegs will fit. Anyway, right now I have one...

    Dry Hopping in the Keg

So I'm planning an ESB, and wanted to dry hop EKG in the keg. I ordered one of those hop ball things. My concern is that most people dry hop for 1, maybe 2 weeks. This beer is for SWMBO, so I'm going to make sure it isnt drunk too quickly, so it may stay in the keg for 4, 5+ weeks. What's...

    Whirlpooling

Anyone who doubts the hop whirlpool - here is evidence. If it can take down a boat, it'll clear your wort. http://jalopnik.com/#!5780930/boat-caught-in-huge-whirlpool-after-japans-89+magnitude-earthquake Crazy.

    German Beer History

Everyone mentions the Germans when it comes to beer history. But Germany didnt really become a country until 1871. Even Canada is older than that. Does anyone have any resources or data on the history of Germany, and the effect that had on the beers of the region. I'm curious how much...

    step mash in kettle?

So I want to do a step mash. I was wondering if I could do that in my kettle, so I can apply direct heat? Then pour the hot mash w/ the grains into my regular mash tun (10 galloon cooler) for straining and sparging. The issue I see with this is pouring the mash is that it'll be clumpy, and...

    Help me with a hefe

Feel free to skip to my summary and respond: So, this is the third hefe I've made... the brewing classic styles recipes, and I'm not thrilled with it. I've done an extract hefe, a partial mash, and an all grain. Its one of my favorite styles so as you can see I've attempted one at each...
