    We're going to be in Asheville for 3 days next week. What the best 4 or 5 beer places to hit? There's a bunch near our hotel, but I want to make sure that I don't miss something great, or waste time at a mediocre pub.

    Sweet Stout question

    I was planning on brewing the Sweet Stout recipe in the Jan/Feb issue of BYO. The all-grain version of the recipe called for 8 pounds of UK pale ale malt, the extract version said to replace 7 pounds of the pale ale malt with .5 pounds of malt and some extract. So..... I bought 1.5 pounds...

    sugar and hydrometer readings

    I made a sweet stout that should be ready to drink tomorrow night. SG was around 1.063, FG came in at about 1.021, which I'm mostly satisfied with. Then I got to thinking......there's a pound of unfermentable sugar in this stuff. Is that going to affect the accuracy of my readings?

    cider taste?

    I noticed a weird cider-y aftertaste in a bottle of my beer, but just one bottle. It was my first batch, a Listermann Gomez American Lager (Sam Adams clone), and everything else has tasted fine, delicious actually. Now....I thought it was just maybe an off bottle until I bought a few bottles...
