Spirits added to beer- Can you calculate ABV?

I have made a couple of brews now that have had rum and bourbon additions to achieve a flavor profile. Even vodka 'extracts' used at bottling. Is there a way to calculate how much the ABV goes up from the booze additions? Example: 5 gallons of a 5% beer had 6 ounces of bourbon added to the...

    NHC Entry Question

Trying to decide where to enter my Gluten-Free Pale Ale and thought I'd ask you guys. I can see it in American Pale Ale (10A), except that being gluten free (sorghum and honey base), the head is non-existent and, what little it has, dissipates quickly. Thoughts? Aren't we over do for an...

    Bottle Tree Add-on Tier

I have a 45 bottle bottle tree, like this: http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/economy-bottle-tree.html I swear I found some place that sold additional tiers, so I could expand the drying capability. I'll be damned if I can find it now. I can find the other tree and expansion tiers, but...

    Valley Grain Mill

Does anyone have a link to the Valley Grain Mill site? I understand they have an adapter bit needed to properly attach a drill to the mill. I picked one up as part of a great equipment score, but it's without the handle. Any advice on getting this thing working so I can mill by own grain too?

    Shipping

Forgive me if this has been brought up before (I'll admit, I did not search), but what seems to be the best way for shipping beer out-of-state to friends and for competitions? My bud in CO sent me a link he found...

    Competition Help

I have an Oktoberfest competition coming up that I'm entering a couple of beers in. Most of my brews fall into the Speciality category (23 on the BJCP Style Guidelines) due to my additions of this, that and the other. :rockin: I make a good Prickly Pear Honey Blonde. It's a Blonde Ale (6B)...

Opinions needed... tea bags for armoa/flavor

I just racked my Prickly Pear Honey Blonde Ale to secondary today. It smells fantastic and the tiny sample was not bad at all. Tasted like beer, so it's a success already! :D What I'm wondering is this: should I add another tea bag or two of the China Mist Prickly Pear Black Tea to the...

    New member from Phoenix

Hi all... actually been lurking for over a month, figured I should introduce myself. I'm Sean and I'm on my third batch of homebrew, a Watermelon Kolch. Not sure it's a good pairing, but it's mine and I'll drink it. :D It's on day six of fermentation now, still burping about every 20 seconds...
