    Whirlpool and DMS

I read that Stone Brewery whirlpools @ 200 degrees for 75 to 90 minutes. I have the ability to whirlpool at a maintained temp now that I have my electric kettle. If I boil for 90 minutes and whirlpool @ 200 for 75 minutes, then send it through my counterflow chiller. Am I at risk of forming DMS...

    My electric brewery build

I just wanted to show off all my hard work from this weekend. I was hoping to brew last weekend on this...maybe next weekend. I still have to build the electric keggles. (those are from my propane rig) I had to do the control box twice...after I got it built, it kept tripping the GFCI when I...

    Electric Element Control question

I want to build an e-keggle. I have 240v (220V?) available. I am going to use a 50A GFCI breaker in the main panel, a 30A breaker and a 20A (120V) in a sub-panel. I wanted to use a 2000w 120V in my HLT and a 4500 or 5500W in the brew kettle. What is the purpose of the SSR and PID? is it just...

So what do you do with...

A beer you just don't like? I have what you call my house beer I guess...(the one I have made the most)...it is a bock recipe. I make it two ways, as a lager and as an ale. I recently got an all grain recipe from a different HBS of the same name. Well it may have the same name but it is not...

DIY Grain Mill. I was excited until....

So I found what I thought would make great rollers for my soon to be mill. 24 bucks at Harbor Freight. I ran a shaft through one side, acquired all the necessary bearings, and drew up my plan. Then I read on here that aluminum rollers will not last long and that I will end up...

    Riddle me this Batman...

I have had my Ruination clone in the fermenter for 11 days now (wyeast 1056) and still have airlock activity. I need to dry hop (2oz whole centennial)it. Should I go ahead and pop it open or should I wait until I have no bubbles. I don't want to waist the aroma on my fermenting cabinet... I also...

I gave it one more shot at bottle harvesting this yeast. I started with a bottle of Shakespeare Stout. The wife drank it. I tasted it but I'm not a fan of the super dark beers. well I was huffing on the starter i made with the yeast and I think it stinks. The last one smelled like this also...

    Imperial IPA yeast ??

I plan on brewing on the 16th. I was going to use Pacman, but my attempt at bottle harvesting was a flop. I have a brown ale due to be bottled that weekend that is Wyeast 1056. (1.065) 3wks in primary. I also have an amber ale to be bottled also on WLP011 (European ale yeast)(this one was...

Do I have a problem? Bottle Harvested Pacman

I read somewhere that peanut butter color is indicative of yeast that is no good. This was light DME, the yeast came from a bottle of Rogue Somer Orange Honey Ale. I was not impressed by the beer at all...anyway. The slurry was a dark color in the bottle. I made the starter last night and didnt...

Here's a new use for your shop vac

I brewed my first all-grain today. I learned so much from lurking and reading on this site. To say thanks I'm posting this. I'm surprised it hasn't been covered before but I never found it in all of my research over the last several weeks. I have been using my shop vac as a vacuum pump for my...
