    Milwaukee's Slice of Heaven

I made a "B" "double-E" "double-R" "U" "N" today to Discount Liquor in Milwaukee, WI. An entire row of micro's. A fair selection of Belgian's and a monster-selection of German Imports. So I got off fairly easy at only 127.00 including the buying of four glasses to aid in consumption. Lots...

    My decision

I have a decision to make as winter is fast-approaching. I've made the initial decision that I will do two upgrades before early summer. A fall project and a winter project. Lagering and Kegging. Kegging will probably include a portable dispensing system in addition to a kegerator...

    Longneck's (New Berlin, WI)

The "house" beers were just not great. They only had two of the four listed on tap. I tried the amber ale, but it didn't holler "amber" to me and was under-hopped. The next two beers were Smuttynose IPA's. Their "pilsner" starts with: "This ale..." Ok, how is a pilsner an ale...

High attenuation and an apparent reason

I took several grav. readings today and based on the math found that two of my beers have attenuated beyond what the website says. This doesn't worry me, however I am the type of person that just HAS to know why. And I remember a prior post about how someones yeast attenuated at 83%. The...

    Mash and hot-side aeration

Do I have to be worried about this? I try real hard to gently pour my runnings back in with as little splashing as possible...but then I see 170deg. water being poured over the grains...hehe. Why not worry about this? Because boiling gets rid of that bad aeration or?

    How cool is your keggle?

I got a Warsteiner. It's a 1/4-barrel and I've yet to name her. What brand does everyone else have?

    Wild Hops

So, I found some wild hops growing along a road today. Score!!! A friend also told me he has collected buckets of them in an area close-by. Score!! Problem is I have no clue what kind of hops they are and really don't think they will contribute much of anything. I think I will do some...

    Exo's IPA (a Walker-San AG clone)

So, I've just ordered everything needed for my IPA. This will be my first all-grain. Going to pitch this wort right onto the slurry/trub from my Flyin' Hornet Pale Ale. I based it on Walker-San's Kaduva IPA. Here it is: 5.5gal Est. OG at 75%: 1.058 Act. OG (77% eff.): 1.060 SRM: 8.3...

My Partial Mash and some questions

Yesterday was brew-day and it was my first true mash of any kind. I was suprised at how much room I had for more grain in my 6-gal DIY mash-tun. Guessing I could get 14# in. So I have a few questions and hopefully ya'll don't think they are stupid. 1.) For those of you that use...

10g. Igloo Coolers at Home Depot

Wanted to share my find at the Home Depot. Went to the Home Depot yest. and they had 10gal. (insulated) round Igloo Coolers on sale at the Home Depot. Price was $39.95. I'd say that's blasted cheap compared to the rubbermaid!!!!

    8gallon keggle!

I scored on a 8 gallon (OK, 7.75) converted keg. So I have me a mini-keggle to go with my mini-mash. Complete with a welded fitting. Full boil of mini-mashes here I come. I just have to supply the 1/2" valve-arm...whatchacallit. My only problem is that the keg is dirty as all heck inside...

    Another forever ferment question

I brewed my O'fest Ale July 14th. It's still bloody fermenting. Here's the times and temps. Think it will ever stop? I've had active fermentation throughout. Heh! 12 days primary at 62deg. OG: 1.063 (2 or 3 days of blow-off) Racked to secondary and grav. was 1.022 Tasted great. (Near...

    First Brew / First Label

Here's my first label. Hopefully it doesn't offend anyone that it looks very similar style-wise to a few other labels...*cough*St. Faud*cough*. I get around on Photoshop, but haven't thought up a good design quite yet.

Need help with a AG Mirror Pond clone

Boy, I love Deschute's Mirror Pond Pale Ale. It's been discussed a bit here before, but I've never seen a recipe that was all-grain. I'd like this to be my first all-grain recipe. It's tough to get Mirror Pond where I'm from and shipping it here is about 16 bucks a six-pack. So...you...

    Equipment Sizing

This is what I consider a dumb question, especially since I can't find anything in the searches I've done here...but it is more of an experience question. My plan is to go with rubbermaid coolers as I venture into AG. My concern is size. If my *maximum* target OG is the 1.090 area, how large...

    Yeast Starter Question

I'm going to be brewing Cheesefood's Caramel Creme Ale on Monday. I started my yeast starter today. A prev. yeast starter used for my Wee Heavy did just fine... So here's the issue. After 12hrs there is no head/krausen forming in my starter container. Just the liquid. When I swirl the...

    1968 London ESB Ale Yeast

A question about this yeast, 1968 London ESB Ale Yeast from Wyeast. I know it's extremely flocculant, so I'm wondering is this beer near completion? Recipe (Winter Ale) is in my signature. Since racking to secondary there has been no bubbling whatsoever. Is it possibly done and I'm best...

    Advice on a project

I currently don't have the ability to store beers at colder temps for aging. My current temp is around 60deg. Until I can buy a good sized used freezer and get it downstairs w/o upsetting SWMBO I'm kinda stuck. My basement floor is a cool 50-51deg. Not a "perfect" temp for storage and...
