Any guesses on the Chelmsford water profile?

I keep forgetting to send my water in to Ward for testing and not knowing the profile is making me anxious! I'll send it in soon enough, but if anyone has a idea, that would be nice. :mug:

How cheaply could you build a RIMS MLT?

I'm curious what people on the forum think. Completely from scratch, if you had to buy everything retail/online (no "re-purposing" old stuff, junkyard finds). Vessel, elements, pump, fittings, hose, etc. If you put all of your receipts in pile, all the way down to the hose clamps, how cheaply...

Who is doing continuous mash pH monitoring?

I had written it off as a possibility long ago. It always seemed like it would be a PITA to do it simply, but now that I've gone down the microcontroller route a lot of things are opening up. Came across this the other day: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10972 $100 for continuous pH...

Pliny Cloners: How successful were you?

I'm going to be brewing up a Pliny clone based on Vinnie's recipe coming up here soon. I know a lot of people have brewed this recipe. How close were you to the original? Do you feel you got the same level of hop intensity as the Pliny, or other similar IIPAs?

Anyone have a dedicated whirlpool tank?

Since I have gone to an electric kettle and IC (from propane+CFC), the whirlpooling really doesn't work. There's too much stuff in there breaking up the flow pattern. I could pull out the IC after it's chilled, but I would think the element is still going to have an effect on the whirlpooling...

    Speaking of broken hydrometers...

Would it really be that difficult to make one out of stainless? Shouldn't be.

Where do you ferment your WY3068/WLP300?

I did a German Hefe recently with WY3068. I fermented at 62, on Jamil's advice. Supposedly, he gets pretty balanced banana and clove at that temp. I don't get much clove coming through in mine. What temps are people having success with the Weihenstephan strain?

Variability of hydration in Calcium Chloride

Now that I'm finally delving into water adjustment, something jumped out at me when looking at the salts being used. Most of the salts seem to be fairly stable with a certain number of hydrates, but it seems that CaCl2 is a very hygroscopic species and can (and will) absorb moisture readily...

Steam Brewers roll call, what's your system?

I'm putting together a steam injection system for my new brewery and I was curious about the steam systems that people out there are running. What are you using for a steam generator? Batch size? Ramp rates? etc. My plan is to use a 23 qt. Presto pressure cooker for my generator for 10...

Where to start with a PLC controlled brewery?

I'm mainly thinking of the control unit here. I have some experience using and programming PLCs, but I don't have a good handle on what's available out there (for cheap ;)), especially when analog control is involved. The brewery I'm designing in my head would probably have 15-20...
