    What are these white flakes?

I've been brewing (extract) for five years, and I've never had an infection and I've never seen anything like this. Quick search either comes up with too many results or irrelevant results. Looks like a possible infection, but when I tap on the fermenter the flakes fall into suspension which...

Is it OK to use hop "powder?" :)

Hi all - I just got my latest shipment from AHS, and apparently the box was damaged in shipping. My bag of hop pellets took a direct hit, and now I essentially have hop powder instead of pellets. Does it matter, or just as usable?

    Ah! Ran out of bottles...

So I unexpectedly ran out of bottles tonight. Pulled more beer off the trub than any of my previous batches. In desperation, I looked around and ended up with this: http://www.icemountainwater.com/Products/ThreeLiter.aspx I know it probably won't work to carb up and everything, but now...

Pretty sure the beer is OK, but what did I do?

Hi All - Third batch in the primary. First two were great... everything as expected. This one, an amber... brewed on Wednesday, and there was no airlock activity up to when I left town on Thursday about 26 hours later. I called my wife to have her check it on Friday night... still...

    Noob question about suspended/swirling yeast

Hi All - This past weekend I had a Sierra Nevada Kellerweis. I noticed something interesting: "To serve, pour two-thirds into a glass, swirl and pour the rest." I rarely take the time to read the labels, so it's very possible (and even likely) that I've missed this suggestion on other...

    Noob in IA

Hi guys (and ladies?) - Been lurking a while, and finally started taking a closer look at the individual threads and sub-forums, etc. and decided to pull the trigger on the intro. Like most others, the interest was derived from a night of drinking too many "random" beers that I picked up...
