    Propane tank icing/losing pressure?

My propane tank ices up after going for about an hour which leads to loss of pressure to my burner (30psi banjo cooker). Eventually it gets to the point where I cant maintain a boil. Luckily I had a spare but I'd like to figure out a better way. Anyone else experience this or know of any...

What is wrong with my burner?

I can't maintain a boil to save my life. I have about 6 gallons in a 10 gallon aluminum pot with a banjo cooker. I've tried opening up the regulator all the way. Giving it more air, less air, and every combination in between and it will not maintain a boil. What is wrong? How can I get the most...

    One day I'll learn...

to handle DME without making a giant sticky mess of everything! I feel like a little child with sticky fingers. As soon as it leaves the bag it floats effortlessly through the air and when it contacts anything with .0001% moisture it forms a hardened sugary crust that covers my kitchen. When I...

Can I pull off an IPA in a month?

I want to have an IPA for a party on july 31st and plan to brew it this weekend. It'll be 9ish lbs LME 4 oz hops and wl005. I plan to make a starter to get things going, 1/2 gal growler big enough? My basement is about 66F right now. Think this is enough time? EDIT: Oh, and i'll keg and force carb

Can temperature change cause CO2 pressure to drop...

or did I just lose half my co2 tank to a leak? I took my keg out of the fridge to force carbonate by shaking it. The co2 tank is in the fridge and it was out in the warm air maybe 5 minutes. I looked at my gauge and it was in the red and I just had it filled. Could it be that the tank warmed up...

Advantage to building up a starter in steps?

I've read that you can step up your starter by increasing sizes but is there any advantage to doubling up a starter from, say, 1 quart to a half gallon to a gallon as opposed to just pitching the yeast right into the gallon jug?

    Knockout and late hop additions

I'm a little confused about how to time the late extract addition and late hop additions. I've read you should add the last half of extract at flameout and let it pasteurize for 10 minutes, but how does this affect late hop additions? Should I add the finishing hops which are supposed to go in...

Preparing to keg for first time...

I got my co2 tank hooked up and gave my corny a test run. I've heard the lids can be "fussy" but that doesn't really do it justice. PITA is more like it. After 15 minutes and removing and flipping the O ring I finally got it to stop hissing. When I open the regulator I get a hollow hissing...

    Advice for small fridge deconstruction...

I have a small Haier freezer/fridge that I want to use for a kegerator. It is the kind that has a metal ice box on top like this: The ice box has cooling coils on the bottom and sides: What I want to do is cut the top part (just metal, no coils) off the ice box and bend the sides...

    Storing sanitizer (starsan or iodophor)

I'm going to brew tomorrow and want to keg another batch this weekend. My question is can I pour the 5 gal of sanitizer (starsan or iodophor) from my current batch into my corny and leave it for a few days? If not any other ideas for re-using or conserving sanitizer?
