    Shrunk my Better Bottle

I haven't been on this forum much the past few months, but after searching I found a few other instances of this happening. Don't put 175° wort in a better bottle. I knew better than to do it.......surely I knew better! But my garden hose I run to my copper tubing chiller was frozen solid...

    Drinking my first homebrewed Draft!!!!

Wooooooohooooooooooo!!!!! I got home from work today and realized my kegged Chocolate Milk Stout was one day past the 3 week mark. Somehow I managed to make it to the 3 week mark without sampling (I've been drinking my last two bottled batches). So I took the keg out to my workshop fridge...

    The Last Straw

Well, it happened. I have perhaps bottled my last batch of beer. Saturday night I started soaking and peeling labels. Takes forever in my small kitchen sink. I spent hours the next day peeling more labels, sanitizing, bottling and cleaning. About 3 hours of my Sunday gone altogether...

    What would you call this?

I brewed some beer last night, but I have no idea what to call it. Here's what I did: Style: Bock Type: Extract w/grain Size: 6.0 gallons Color: 22 HCU (~12 SRM) Bitterness: 21 IBU OG: 1.061 FG: 1.018 Alcohol: 5.6% v/v (4.4% w/w) Grain: 1 lb. American Munich...

    Lagering, would this work?

Okay, I'm reading about building a "cold box" or using a fridge/freezer for lagering, but I'm short on time and for the next month or so, really short on cash. Here's what I do have. One huge commercial grade stainless fridge in an unheated workshop, with a Johnson temp controller. Problem...

    White Labs WLP029 thoughts?

Have many people used this yeast much? I didn't get much feedback from a searching. On Saturday (4 days ago) I brewed an Alaskan Amber Clone "attempt" and pitched a smallish starter. This morning I had still not seen ANY airlock motion, so I did what every man does when they're upset. I...

    Turkey Fryer!......Yaaaay!!

Well, I finally took a big step (for me), and since it tells me at the top of the page that I haven't posted for a long time, I thought I'd share some thoughts and concerns. I got a turkey fryer at Lowes today. It's a Saf-T-Fryer brand. I've never heard of it. It has a 46k BTU burner and a...

    Adding Lactose?

Just started steeping grains in my milk stout, and realized, I don't know when I'm supposed to add the Lactose?! I'm guessing during or toward the end of the boil since it's unfermentable? It's an extract with grains recipe if that matters. Help! Thanks!

    Interesting Bottles?

Does anyone else have any "special" bottles that they use? I'm talking about a bottle that has some significance, antiquity, special story, or anything else that may make it near and dear to your heart. I've got this smallish, maybe 10oz., brown, non-descript bottle that I found while SCUBA...

    Flip-Top Bottle question

Okay, so I got some nice "cobalt" blue flip-top bottles and put them to use. Some of them didn't carbonate. Is there a certain way to cap them properly? I just flipped them shut and set them back to age, but so far I've had 3 out of the 10 turn out flat. Not spoiled...they taste...

Looking for a lighter ale recipe......

I've been searching the forums and I can't seem to find much. Not saying I'm searching correctly......... I brewed a honey brown ale and saved the yeast off the secondary. I'd like to reuse it if possible, so I'm looking for something a little lighter. I'm not up for all grain yet, so it...

    I'm hooked!

I just transferred my official first brew to secondary. I was planning to bottle straight from primary, but since I've learned so much here the past few days, I decided to wait. Don't good things come to those who wait? I must say, this is way more fun than I though it could ever be...
