    Apfelwein leaking from disconnect

I wanted to taste/test my Apfelwein yesterday. Using the same bev out line I have used previously, I snapped it on the bev out and Apfelwein started seeping out of the black QD. I immediately pulled it and tested it on another keg and it operated fine (no leaks). Is it more than likely a...

First Pour wasn't what I expected...

Tried my Apfelwein yesterday for the first time. I kegged it just over two weeks ago. Fridge is at 38 degrees and 10 PSI. When I poured it (I had several samples throughout the day) I would get about 2 inches of head/foam that would disappear within 60 seconds. A slow trickle of bubbles would...

    Keg to Keg transfer?

I have a strong scottsman in a corny keg for secondary. When I am reading to transfer and carb, can I do a keg to keg transfer without taking the lid off either keg? I was thinking I could push from the secondary corny to the destination corny by hooking up the two liquid outs and pushing in...

    Bugs in my airlock

I made some Apfelwein on 5/13/09 and it is in a 5 gallon carboy with a one piece airlock. Airlock is still bubbling away. I check it every couple of days and it has been looking just fine. I looked at it this morning and there are 8 bugs floating around in the vodka. EIGHT. The holes in...

Mistakes I made when kegging the first time

Today has been a bit of a challenge... I made Ed Wort's Apfelwein on 3-23 and was ready to keg it today. I also made a Strong Scottsman 2 weeks ago and was ready to transfer it from the primary. I decided to put it in a keg for the secondary (for the 1st time) instead of a carboy. As a...

    Yeast Starter

I am planning on brewing tomorrow afternoon/evening. I pulled my Wyeast out of the fridge and noticed it is a Propagator and not an Activator. I haven't done a starter before. I have read the instructions and it seems simple enough. I know it is recommended but do I have to do it? I don't...

    20 LB CO2 Tank

I am ready to start kegging and I friend offered me a 20lb CO2 tank with 2 gauge regulator and hoses for $60. That seems like a really good price. Is there any drawback to a 20lb tank? It seems like everyone uses 5 and 10 lbers.
