    boil question

    Probably a dumb question. How hard does the boil have to be? I've always done a very fast full rolling boil. When I bottle I only end up with a bit over 4 gallons. Once the boil starts would a slower boil suffice so that I end up with more beer?

    expected yield

    I expect to lose some water thru boiling and evaporation. What's an average expected loss? I start with a 6 gal boil and ended up bolling almost 3.5 gals. Is that typical? Thanks.

    carbonation and head

    When I use my own extract receipe the head and carbonation out of the bottle is minimal. I use 4oz ov cane sugar boiled in 1 cup of water for a 5 gal. batch.
