when using grains and the recipe says to steep with 2.5 gal and then sparge with 2.5 gal, couldnt i just steep with the full 5? i was just wondering on if sparging was really that necessary.

i feel stupid asking this but when i rack to my carboy i got one of the carboy caps. the two little hoses (i guess thats what they are called) have caps on them. when i rack it to i cap the carboy with the caps on or add my hydrolock on the top and cap the other side.
