    NE Brewery Road Trip

I just found out I've got a week off for Christmas. Instead of that whole spending time with family think I keep hearing about, I think I'm going to opt for a good old brewery road trip. I'd be leaving from Huntington, WV (the land where Corona is considered craft beer) and heading for greener...

    Detroit area brewery suggestions

The wife and I are heading to Detroit next weekend so she can run the marathon, any suggestions on must hit breweries? Just from doing a little reading it sounds like Dragonmead is a must. We're also planning on going to Jolly Pumpkin, mainly because our experience at the Traverse City one was...

    Forgot the bittering hops

In my second most epic brew fail, I have forgotten the bittering in my latest brew. I got to drinking and had a friend over, I put in one of my 60min hops but forgot the other, which makes up about 80% of the IBUs. Now the beer is fermenting and I'm not sure what to do. Can I make a hop...

    wet hop beer

I've got lots of cascade hops that are nearing ready to be picked and a small amount of centennial. I was hoping to make a 100% homegrown wet hop beer, any thoughts on a good style for mostly cascade and a little centennial?

    lager aeration

I brewed my first 2 lagers on Monday. I cooled overnight, racked off the trub and pitched my starters Tuesday around noon. I aerated, by shaking the bucket, for about 5 min. each. I went back to aerate again about 6pm because I wanted to make sure there was plenty of oxygen in the beer. Both...

    Rocker Switch Wiring

I have this rocker switch and I wanted to use it to switch on a string of rope lights on my keezer. I've searched and can't figure out exactly how to wire it. It's got 3 terminals labeled 1, 2, and 3, the 3 also has a plus and minus on it. Any help would be appreciated.

    fan wiring

I've got one of these sitting around and wanted to us it to cool my coffin in my keezer. It's got three wires, red black and yellow. From what I was reading I guess the yellow wire is for a tachometer. I've got a 12V transformer to power the fan, can I just leave the yellow wire not connected...

    Pilsen DME and DMS

So I'm an idiot and accidentally ordered Pilsen DME instead of light DME to use in my starters. Do I have to worry about any DMS problems?

    Starting over

Well I just moved from Chicago to West Virginia and I thought I would take the chance to sort of start over in my brewing. I didn't brew for a 6 months before I left in order to empty out my 6 kegs, I did not want to move 6 kegs full of beer. I just got brewing classic styles and I'm excited...

    Goose Island and AB

Anybody know any more about this. I think they have had some sort of agreement for a while but not sure what it is. And that statement is pretty vague. http://www.gooseisland.com/pages/special_announcement/133.php

    Cleveland Trip

I got some free Megabus tickets a few weeks ago that enabled my wife and I to go to Cleveland for the day this Friday. The main reason for the trip is to go to Great Lakes Brewery but I was wondering if there were any other places that we shouldn't miss while we are in town.

    Pin Lock Cornies

I've got 2 pin lock cornies I need to get rid of. They are in great shape, hold pressure. O rings were replaced not too long ago and have been kept lubed since. I've also got gas and beer disconnects for both plus an extra beer disconnect for a BeirMuncher beer gun. I've also got a custom made...

where to put hops this winter

I've got a first year cascade plant in a pot and I'm just wondering if it will be too cold outside during the Chicago winter since it's in a pot. My other options are an unheated detached garage or my basement, which stays about 50 degrees all winter. Any suggestions?

    Recipe formulation

Well I've recently been given some grain but I have no real experience in creating recipes on my own. I would like to use the grain and random assorted selection of hops I have on hand to do an impromptu brew tomorrow. Any suggestions on a recipe would be appreciated. As far as grain, I...

    Open fermentation

Anyone watch the Brewing TV episode on open fermentation? Good episode, it made me want to try an experiment. I want to do a 5 gallon batch then split it into two fermentors and do one open and one closed so I can compare the difference it makes. My question is, what kind of beer would lend...
