    Pine Mash Paddles?

So after the recent hurricane here, I lost a huge pine tree and would like to put the remains to good use. I was thinking of making either one mash paddle or a few (depending on how time consuming the job is) and I'm curious if pine is an ok wood to use... Any insight?

    One primed, one didn't...

Hey guys, I kegged two batches back in May, one with honey and the other with brown sugar. I know I got the mixtures right but the batch with brown sugar did NOT prime. The batch I used honey in worked great and is perfectly primed. Do I try & re-prime while the brew is still in the keg...

taking a full keg out of the kegorator & storing...

My keg of nut brown ale is carb'd and ready to drink but I'm not a huge fan of it and would like to let it sit and condition and drink another keg in the meantime. Can I simply pull it out, disconnect the gas and leave it alone for a while and tap another keg?

Wort chiller. To buy or not to buy...

Is it maybe just my area or has the cost of copper increased so much that buying a commercial wort chiller costs about the same as making your own? I was looking online at Lowes & The Home Depot and the price of copper coil is super expensive. I can buy one from AHS for $65 + shipping which...

    Full boil question

I'm going to be brewing a few batches tomorrow and always forget to ask this. I have a huge lobster pot for a brew pot and can and have done successful full boils. My question is how much brew water to start with. I think I normally put just over 6 gallons to give up one to boil off...

    I think I actually ruined a batch...

So back in August I brewed up a bunch of batches with the intent of leaving them for a while to clear up real nice. Well all the batches have been bottled/kegged & consumed already except for one extract kit of a Nut Brown ale. About a month or so ago, I checked the gravity and it was...

Forgot to take an original gravity reading

I brewed an AHS Chocolate Raspberry Stout (partial mash) and forgot to take the OG. I brewed it 1/9 so it's been in the primary for over a month. I planned on kegging it this morning and the gravity is reading 1.028 & it should be 1.014. Should I just keg it anyway? I'm carbing this with...

    First time kegging tonight...

My cousin had a kegerator from college and had no use for it when he got home so he gave it to me along with a co2 tank. I'm ready to keg & force carb one of my batches tonight and am not sure how to read the regulator. There is co2 in there I'm just not sure if there's enough.

    Forgotten beer makes a comeback!

So I brewed a Nut Brown Ale 3/18/09, bottled 4/19 and just found/drank one last night 11/28. It was one of the best beers I've tasted in a long time. Here's my dilemma. I've got another batch of this same Nut Brown Ale sitting in my basement that I haven't had the time to bottle recently...

To pitch more yeast or to not (and bottle)...

The first week in August, I brewed an AHS Special Holiday Ale (mini mash) & an AHS Pumpkin Ale (mini mash). The Holiday Ale (brewed 8/2); 3/4 lb. Crystal 60L 2 1/2 lb. 2-row malt 2 oz. Chocolate malt 5 lb. Extra Pale Extract 1 oz. Mt. Hood (60 minutes) 1/2 oz. Saaz (15 minutes) 1/2 oz...

    My Better Bottle shrunk!

So this is the second time I've used my BB, the first was for Edworts Apfelwein and I just put in an American Wheat. Well I let the wort cool for a bit after the boil, poured it in the BB and it melted a bit & shrunk significantly! Am I the first newb to ruin a BB??? I always use...

    Sparge + Pumpkin?

Hey guys, I'm brewing a AHS Pumpkin ale and I've got my 4lb's of pumpkin baking at the moment. I just realized, I'm using 1 quart of sparge water for every 2lb of grain in my grain bag. If I'm adding 4lb's of pumpkin, does that increase the amount of sparge water needed? I am thinking not and...

    My first mini-mash

Hey guys, I decided to take the next step after 3 extract batches (very successful) and move onto a mini-mash. It's a AHS Special Holiday Ale My question is in the instructions (I know I know they're more like guidelines) it reads: (after putting all the grains in the grain bag) Soak the...

Possibly brewing an old extract kit

My buddy was helping his father in law clean out some stuff from his basement and he found an extract kit still in the box and gave it to me. I have absolutely no idea how old it is, it's a Brewers Best kit but the style of the box & it's contents doesn't look anything like the Brewers Best...

    What went wrong? FG: 1.012 - 1.014...

But I just did a gravity reading after 4 weeks in the primary & it's reading 1.20! I forgot to take an OG reading which pisses me off but what the hell happened? This batch may have sucked a little bit of vodka in it but after 4 weeks, I was about ready to bottle. Do I hold off a week or...

To carbonate or not to carbonate... Irish Stout

I brewed an all extract Irish Stout a few weeks ago and bottled last night. I love Guinness and must say, my Irish Stout tasted very similar. After priming/bottling, I sampled what was left in the bottling bucket. Wow I kind of wished I hadn't primed the batch... Maybe done 50/50 prime/no...

    When your beer freezes...

can it be saved? I've finished all but 2 bottles from my first batch. one is sitting for a special occasion and I had just put one in the mini fridge. Well my fiancee cranked the temp down and a bunch of my beers froze... The homebrewed bottle is a Grolsch style bottle and a bit of frozen...

    The story of a noob...

Well Thanksgiving weekend (Sunday 11/30 to be exact) I decided to brew my first batch of beer. I've read tons of info prior to this and felt I was ready to give it a go... So Sunday I start my boil. My cousins come over one brings his girlfriend, then my brother shows up, then my fiancee &...
